Hi everyone,

Recently I made a thread about taking a stab at 10nl after beating both 2nl and 5nl at a decent winrate over around 200k hands.

Things didn't work out so well, and my bankroll fell down to 100$ for various reasons (from 300$).

Decided to keep grinding 2nl and 5nl to work my way back, but everything is just off. I think I am playing alot looser, making calls oop and just spewing money around me. It's like I'm on constant tilt nowadays, and I can't find anything to stop it.

What should I do?
Thinking of relearning everything, since I seem to have forgotten how to play winning poker. What is the best way to do this?

Maybe quit zoom, but it's such a project to open up 10-12 tables instead of just sticking to 6-7 zoom ones.

I am just clueless of what is going on... I know I beat the stake by far, so please don't come with any comments about a 200k hand upswing (lol).

Any tips in general how to improve my game is appreciated.
Leak buster? Strategy videos? Steroids?

Stop it.
I know the feeling, you start calling everyone's bet, thinking they're bluffing, over estimating your own skills compared to your opponents and playing hands you know you shouldn't.
Go back to your winning strategy, if it worked before it will still work. I do the same, when I hit a losing streak I start changing things and it gets worse.
After a while I calm down and go back to what I know and it works again

+1 to this

you just get over confident and you take risks you shouldn't

my advice take a day or two off relax and come back with your original strategy and win your money back!!!!!

I do recommend Leakbuster. It is a good program, and will definitely help you fix some of those issues. I started out with double digit leaks everywhere, and it has helped me get that number down significantly. Still have a few costly ones that i'm trying to work out, but it has been a huge help.
And you mentioned videos, it does have quite a bit of full length video and written content that will correspond to the leaks you are displaying.

good luck!

When I hit a downswing, it often helps me just to book a couple of winning sessions. To do so, I'll drop levels and play fewer tables until I'm back to my winning ways. Depending how much I want that to happen quickly, I'll sometimes even immediately go right to 1 table of NL2.

This was pretty much spot on. Thanks, managed to start working my way back again by playing the same tight aggressive poker I used to play.

I appreciate the time you all took to get me back on the same track. Hopefully I'll be at a stable bankroll again anytime soon :)

Take a break. Mourn the loss of that part of your bankroll. Come to terms with where you are, forget about where you wish you were, and when you feel like you want to play again go do it.

Maybe stop early and book the win if you run good out of the gates.

Right now you're probably trying to do too much too fast. Just stop whenever you feel that way. Play when you feel focused.

Caesura had it spot on. Personally, I found it hard to care about the smaller pots when I moved down. If you can keep an even keel, you will be fine.

Doesnt really disgust me since i would play it differently. I don't think I would shove it on the turn since yes you will probably get called by any king, but you have to consider combinations like KT (and since his PFR is 6, he won't be raising PF with it most likely).

That overshove is just... unneccessary. If the flop was KK532 or something like that I would be more inclined to shove. But I'd rather flat his $1.60 bet and then call down the river.

So no, that's not the hands I am disgusted by.

This and THIS and THIS online and LIVE, today I got killed on a disquised straight that was beat on the river and after that hand I started laying down everything because I made one bad call, its hard its ****s with head, what I find is most people arent bluffing, I cant speak for the good ole days but from what I read in every forum is the level of online play is so much better today, that after a few bluff vs bluff fights people get back in line

Totally agree. I used to always think that I was getting bluffed out of too many hands, folding 2nd pair, fold when flush or str8 hits and big bet is out. I decided to call down once in a while then found out that about 80-90% of the time it wasn't a bluff. Most of the time it was usually someone with a hand that shouldn't have been in the hand to begin with, but hit top pair or some low flush or something. It's hard to find that balance without coming off as a total nit.

Why would you flat when only KT/TT beats you? He has so much more Kx hands that we should be trying to get it in here 100% of the time...

There is something for lack of a better term might be reverse tilt. You get on a win streak and feel that you can spend money like a drunken sailor since you are so good. A lot of time you build a bankroll by following certain principles and destroy it by not following the same principles. You win x number of hands with certain pocket cards and then you lose x number of hands with the same holding. A person really has to decide if they are losing because of variance or because they have wavered off the path.

The good news is you acknowledge, and know, what the problem is. There is nothing wrong with playing tight. Nobody likes a nit for good reason. It's especially important when things aren't going well/you aren't playing well and seeing the game good enough.

In poker it's so true that it's not how good you can play, but how good you do play. GL with getting yourself turned around.

I loved what you said on the last sentence. That just inspired put the knowledge in the game not just to discuss like a smart ass.

Breaks are great for your game, especially when you find yourself in a funk. Try befriending other good players and consistently postings hands on forums like these to talk about strategy. If things continue to get worse, it never hurts to have another solid player review your sessions. Best of luck!

Maybe drop down is stakes or play less tables until you get your game figured out. the $1/2 stakes can be really fun too.

dropping down in stakes and playing fewer tables could be part of the solution, if u see things getting back on track you can play your normal stakes and tables...Good luck.
