I am just looking for some advice in the cash game arena. I have been experiencing a lot of bad hands in any level I have been playing from 4nl to 25 nl. I am just wondering what are some strategies that you use in order to deal with the horrible cards for such a long time. I fold enough as it is but it is killing me to keep folding over and over with horrible hands. Its frustrating watching other people get good hands and I just sit for about 20 to 25 minutes with nothing. Give me some of that cardschat pro advice.

bluff as much as my momentum and villain's tendencies will let me get away with. Otherwise just fold until you start running better.

20-25 minutes is long???? :D :D :D

Try being card dead 3 weeks straight + 2 months straight running like shit (massively below EV).

Anyway, it is a matter of damage control, you are not gonna be in profit anyway.

***Best is to nit it up and then when you get nice rocky image THEN you can start bluffing nits and TAGs (NEVER EVER EVER bluff calling stations).***

I actually had days where I was in profit while having shit cards over 3k+ hands, since I just folded all my unsuccessful bluffs. You can't get coolered if you have air :)

If you show 2 bluffs on a table (on showdown), I think it is best to move.

BTW, after my 2 months of utter torture I run like God for 2 weeks and destroyed everybody, so yeah. Now I am only 2 BI under EV :p

P.S. If folding gets boring, you can play a micro tournament on the side (even freeroll). You can blow off steam cheaply and even win some $$$ (since micro buyin MTTs are mega soft).

This.
You cannot do much when you are card dead. But patience is also a skill in poker. Save money for better days. Do not force something to happen because it does not work that way.

How do you deviate from 4nl to 25nl? Shouldn't you just try and beat the stake your at instead of moving up.

Just play through it, shit happens.

Lose the minimum when you're unlucky, Win the maximum when you're lucky.

Yoshimiii is definetly 100% right... It's poker someone has to win, the only thing you can do in your power is to make the right decisions and eventually it'll pay off.

Losing endlessly on end... For 2 months I think something is wrong with your game and you will need to re evaluate your game.. If your playing every 7 days a week. You'll have 500 hand slumps but any more than 2k slumps your playing sloppy.

And that's the difference to an average player to a great player... Great player will always be analysing their own hands at part of their poker schedule and taking notes on yourselves and regs... It's really painful to be good at poker and any extra time will pay off eventually if you handle your time right. So what i'm trying to say if your playing too much or playing bad. Spend time on studying the game or analysing your game. If you get bored reading just watch some tables at the same level you play and practicing putting ppl with cards.

Anyways that's my advice best of luck.

well there is some options.. Bluffing and stealing :) If you decide to play bad cards choose tight opponents to play with and not bad players. Last thing you want when you are bluffing is "call station" :)

Some good Advice there Reg, I'd just like to add,

if your not getting any card's just watch the game, ask yourself how do I beat this guy? start to your immediate left and come back around to your immediate right

I'd recommend taking into consideration.

*where would be a good spot to exploit that particular player, will he bet into you when hes first to act? is he check call/folding

*Another powerful move if your not getting any card's is the small ball freebet. you wanna choose the right player, someone who is open raising alot in mid to late position,
say villain opens for $1.50 in the Hi-jack, come over the top for $3.25 - border line amount to induce a call,
bet $3.50 into the pot 'you can do this with almost any hand' providing your not abusing your freebetting it's quite a successful move, any fishy player will be folding enough of the time to be a profitable play, often agressive players without superior skill back down when they are faced with high pressure
this allow's you a few orbits to wait for cards/

This is obviously incorrect.

2k hands is a blip, there are very good winners (not me :p) who have downswings or break even stretches that go for over 100k hands.

Lets take an example from my own database:
- 2 weeks ago I had a daily session where I was down 5BI over 1.5k hands while running exactly 5BI under EV and I had another exactly same one 4 weeks ago.
- During this stretch I also has 1.5k and 2.5k sessions where I run 5BI over EV (which obviously also influenced results heavily).
- For extra fun example, yesterday and last night I played 4.5k hands winning 7BI while running 3BI over EV despite losing badly over first 2k hands (running under EV)... and that is one freaking day!

... and my total 5NL database is only 135k hands (which means I am a small baby compared to many regulars on this forum). 'Nuff said.

To recap, shit happens and short term is short term and a player can't be depressed over it.

Yes quality of play is also an influence but sometimes it is hard to differentiate the reasons for failure (especially since a lot of runbad doesn't even show on EV differential) + unless you are destroying a level you will have large swings over 10-20k hands sometimes and there is nothing that can be done about it.

Ye a downswing can technically last for ever, however you would have to be pretty unlucky.

Never hurts if you see a good flop to show an aggressive bet once in awhile to see if you can steal a hand when the bad cards just keep a coming
