Studying books, watching vids and reading these forums; However you learn new things, what change have you made in your game that has had the biggest impact?

How long did it take to implement these changes into your game? I ask this because we all have an auto pilot we need to override so new things can be learned and applied. It happens that my autopilot is a complete tool and is hard to teach stuff to.

I am usually studying my poker strategy while playing, so when I learn something new I try it out right away and get a feel for whether it works with the strategy I've already developed. There are quite a few things I've learned that have made a huge difference in my game. The top ones that come to mind are 1. stealing blinds 2. opening pots 3. properly shoving when short stacked.

I've learned so much over the past few months, and especially in the short time I've been a member here, I don't believe it's possible to narrow it down to just one thing. For me personally, in addition to the 3 below, I'll add patience, accepting bad beats and not let them cause tilting, the absolute importance of position, and 3 & 4 betting in cash games.

SNIP<<<<1. stealing blinds 2. opening pots 3. properly shoving when short stacked.

Now, if I had a choice of 1 more thing to learn (and probably master), it would be how to deal with slow play. It's the one bad thing now that I know seriously affects my game.

I could choose a number of things, but right now, I'll pick learning / training myself not to assume that other people think and play like I do.

+1 Pokertracker or HEM. I can't believe I played for so long without it.

A change I made was tightening my calling range and it has kept me out of more dangerous spots. I used to call raises with the same range as I would raising first in...

I agree HM2 and tracker are beasts

For me brm is on top of the list. I am still learning but so far I'm improving great with all the excellent detailed info on this site.

Others are learning how to play better in position, learning how to better read the table, learning to play better on the bubble. Learning to do the calculations in my head and learning to fold lol.

Studying Bovada hand histories and taking notes on how I and others played. I let that slide for a while and have recently put it back in the daily routine.

My biggest improvement I have made was 1. Joining here 2. Learning standard open raises. 3. learning when and how much to 3bet 4. Learning to play positional poker.

I still haven't bought poker books, so that is still to come. I also like to watch gripsed videos on youtube.

Playing in position. By far one of the most important aspects.

Being able to actually fold when behind. That sounds so basic but I really was struggling with that.

If you have a local library, you may want to check what's available there. Mine doesn't have a great selection, but more than nothing, and the cost is right.

Realizing that I need to play the player instead of just trying to run everyone over.

Realising that waiting only cards like AK,KJ,QJ etc. is bad for you and your chips/money...

The biggest improvement I have made to my game is being aware of table position when deciding to enter a pot .Using good judgement based on table position has improved my game dramatically.
Understanding expected value vs. pot odds is making my game stronger too but it's still a work in progress.
And recently, the concept of semi-bluffing has increased my ability to steal pots dramatically.

realizing that people are not bluffing as much as we think made the big difference when i started playing cash.

Biggest impact had to be Little green book, it turned my play around...

What stakes would you say that book is good for? Too much for microstakes NL10 and below?

Phil Gordon's little green book

What stakes would you say that book is good for? Too much for microstakes NL10 and below?

I played 2 and 4nl at pkr that time, i have never played any level above but one or 3 tilted visits to 10nl. I see this book as a total beginner book that not imply for beating this or that level, this book is about understanding general plays and moves it can imply for micros, it might imply for higher stakes but it's purpose is to understand poker and take a peak of how poker player should think... There is no guarantee that you'll beat any level with this book, any book of that kind, but you'll certainly be better player after reading it...
