I don't know about everyone else out there, but man, do I HATE it when people raise "71" or "99" or "113" for no apparent reason. I can see it when they split before and got an odd chip they want to even there stack, but when people do it willy-nilly, wow it gets in my head. Which actualy is making me start to bet in a similar way... I mean if its making me mad and getting into my head, its gotta be working on other people, so why not?

I'm wondering if this really affects anyone else, if you see it, how often, have you tried it and noticed a difference in the game of the people your playing? I know that, as angry as it makes me, it also seems that I don't call these raises at all pre-flop, simply to keep my stack nice and orderly (and yes, I know that I'm OCDish here). I will still raise it up, but make sure that when I do raise its to something divisibil by 5 :D.

I know how you feel. People betting arbitrary amounts like 123, or the like kinda piss me off. But if you watch thoes players closely, you see the rarely make it deep (if it's a large feild tourney) or keep their buyin if it's a ring game. That type of player is usually in the game foir fun and not much else. They think it's 'fun' to raie a stupid amount and then Cbet another stupid amount. Though having said that, I tend to do it myself from time to time,(very rarely) just to piss off the table if the action seems to be going stale. Otherwise, as you do, if someone raises an abstract amount, and I have a strong hand, I'll re-raise to a rounder amount. For example, if dumbass raises to 147, I'll re pop to 450. Or somethinglike that.

Let's mention those weirdos on some sites that can even bet pennies. I was shocked the first time I was raised $63.50.

I have seen alot of weird bets myself. More and more with dollars and cents like 69.22 and stuff like that. I think they just do it for attention, your basic showoffs.

I never really make weird bets, but they don't bother me. Generally, I'll round it to make it easier to calculate odds, but it's not a big deal. If this is going to bother you I hate to see what happens when you get a bad beat or something that's actually bad happens.

I can't stand odd bets. It's definitely my OCD nature that wants even stacks, even if they are just virtual.

However, I don't believe it affects my decisions while playing. I just find it annoying and take that much more satisfaction in eliminating that player.

hahaha well I don't take the bad beats too bad, unless they are really really bad (runner runner straight or flush or full house or something) I've come to be ready for them most of the time. I just wonder why people would spend the time to type in a weird amount other than to piss people off, but what you gonna do...? just need to learn to meditate or something :)

weird bets don't bother me, but it depends in which site your playing because i know bodog has a very a annoying bet slider and i some times find myself making those bets, which i don't consider weird, the bets i think are weird are are the ones that leave your opponent with 00.01 when im in a mtt and i know i have the best hand instead of putting them allin i like to leave them a little something left.:D

Well that form of raising shouldnt really affect the outcome of the game
I would guess that some people get distracted by this kind of raising and stop focusing on the more important things like the general amount raised in proportion to the pot. I guess its not a bad technique of raising against an oponent since it can just make him confused... but becarefull not to create any paterns or scare people off of your monsters with those kinds of raises since you could lose more money by doing it... Good luck at the tables ! :)

They don't bother me any, I find it's usually silly people doing silly stuff, and not a very serious player, so take advantage of it, and crush them!!!

looool this is very funny. I have met an online player on one of our local sites (he's and accountant) and because this site is so small we often end up at the same table in MTT's. He hates having odd amounts in his stack and watching him play is hilarious.....always guaranteed a fun tourney when he's around!

Some believe these bets will throw bots, giving them the upper hand. I believe these bets are in some cases loosely calculated moves to cause other players to think. A bet of 200 is pretty str8 forward but when you add the extra the brain has to work harder. A bet of 209 can make someone feel that the person does not have a strong enough hand to bet more and can entice them to call. Other times it is actually to cause people to think twice about calling because of the enticing factor. If a person tends to win when odd bets are made it will become memorable for other players and they may shy away from calling later. JMHO

I make odd raises and have reasons for doing so, didn't realize it annoys some people. I now have another reason. ;)

Good point, I am mindful of this but have caught myself...

It threw me off for a long time, but I want to think I have dealt with it. Whether or not it was intended, it did cause me a lack of focus, and I had to learn to deal with it.

I think the important thing to realize is that those bet amounts don't tell you anything.. raising to 432 instead of 450 or 400 doesn't mean a damn thing. Early on I tried to read into those bets and try to figure out why they were betting like that. Quite simply it doesn't matter just treat it like any other bet and go about your business.

The only reason anyone does anything in this game is to gain some sort of advantage over the other players. In this case, it is making you lose focus on the actual game and the play. The bets are made by me to make you add just one more thing into your calculations/thought process on whether or not to stay in the hand.

+1 here.

I do odd betting myself sometimes and it's just one of about 1000 ways to distract opponents.
The more opponents thinking "what a moron" - the better ;) .
