Good day,
I'm just doing a quick post on waiting for the big blind during cash games. There is a very legitimate reason for waiting. Most importantly as it doesn't make sense to pay a blind when it isn't going to buy you a full orbit. This makes sense, but there are exceptions. Do you always wait? I don't.
Here's why:
Reason 1. - I like to post the extra blind early because it gives me the table image of a player who 'can't wait to get their chips in' so players mistakenly put me on a weak range. So if I pick up a monster in the first few hands I'll be getting action with it.
Reason 2. - Collecting information. I post my first blind early so that I can collect HUD data for an extra few hands. This gives me a better impression of opponents by the time I do pick up a decent hand. Of course my first priority is to observe how everyone is playing, ranges etc but I enjoy collecting data for 1 whole orbit.I know it's a small sample anyway, but its usefulness is non-zero.
Reason 3. - Situational considerations. Like having position on maniacs in EP who are having their 10 year open-shove reunion. I don't wait for the button when I can get a call in with a non-nutted decent equity hand. In such a case I will post the extra blind and get myself into the game quickly.
What do you think? I don't mind if you agree or not, would just be interesting to hear your views.
Thanks
G
