Us NEWBIES need a guide to abbreviations

As the ultimate newbie I need a guide to abbreviations.
Many used by those better at the game than me I can figure out but many are a mystery.
So.........
If someone could post a sticky thread with a guide it would be most helpful.

If you click on the "Strategy Articles" tab in the blue bar at the top of the screen, you will find lots of good stuff. It opens to "Beginner Poker", a tab with dozens of articles that include the glossary and a list of hand nicknames.

Understanding betting descriptions

Hi,

I am having trouble understanding descriptions of betting, i.e.:


100NL


Preflop


EP raises to $3, MP1 calls $3, Hero raises to $11 , EP folds , MP1 calls $8
Pot is $25.50 - but by my calculation the pot should be $25.00. Am I missing something?

The small blind (SB) in 100NL would be $.50, and the BB would be $1. Seems like the pot should be $26.50. But anyway, blinds are where the .50 might come from.

I think you're right but if hero was in the BB his raise to $11 would only cost him $10 since he already had $1 posted for the blinds. That would make the pot $25.50.
