Hello everyone this is my first post, I have recently decided to stop playing MTTs for a while as am struggling with finding the time! So I've turned to cash games and am trying to move up the stakes, I seem to be having a lot of trouble with the 1c\2c games, was just wondering if anyone had any advice and experiences from when they were just starting in the microstakes

Dont bluff much. There are many fishes swimming who dont understand about good bluffs.

Be careful here since many are callers who want to chase their draws.

If you search through this Cash Games forum there is plenty of discussions on the Micro Stakes.

But if I was you I would consider getting an e-book called - Crushing the Micros by Blackrain79.

I read it a few year ago when I first started playing and it took me from a break even/small winner at 4NL and 10NL to a solid winning player.

time is a factor to me

I would play aggressive, and realize that if I waited an hour or two to make moves, and profited 2 bucks, it would be $2.00 per hour max, I just made. I would play fast, and try to graduate to higher levels, then, calm it down a bit.

As someone said there are A LOT of limpers!
So even if you make 10bb bet from ep there are still may be 3+ callers.
Profit will come players who will call/bet till the very end with draws.

Depends what issues you're specifically having. Here a few tips.

Identify which types of players are at your table, and adjust your strategy accordingly. For instance, when I first started playing poker I'd always have a solid set strategy for which hands i'd play and how i'd play them preflop and postflop against all players, but of course this can't be done. If you're playing against a lose player who likes to limp a lot, don't bluff them, but instead bet for value with your stronger holdings. Middle pair can be a strong hand against a loose passive player who likes to call you down, and you can usually get two streets of value out of that particular hand depending on the board texture. Against a more tighter player however you need to make sure you're only getting involved in big pots with premium holdings.

Here's a few basic tips
- Don't call a bet just to see a turn card hoping you hit a pair.
- [against tight players and/or good players] Don't bet too much out of position postflop. Check/call or check/raise is the best play. You can always play more aggressive when in position.
- Don't bet for the sake of betting, have a reason every time you make a bet. Are you betting for value, or are you betting as a bluff? Once you figure this out surprisingly your decisions will be more easier postflop.

HINT:

Short stacking is looked down upon....but it works! Sometimes, the lower stake tables deserve it.

As others have said, don't bluff. people will call you down with anything that hits the board. THAT SAID, the typical place people like to bluff, for example, paired flops, fish don't know about so you won't usually have many people floating you with air to steal it on a later street.

Be patient. This is IMO the biggest thing, especially if you are coming from a MTT background where you are used to having to play a certain speed because the blinds rise.

Your typical fish is passive and loose. Once you identify these people it's easy to bet the crap out of them when you have something good. But also that means if they start betting at you, RUN. They don't tend to do that unless they have something scary.

Against fish, avoid every play out of position, only play few hands from the small blind and if you do make the bet bigger than u usually do. Furthermore I think against the real fish you can even triple barrel for value with top pair. Furthermore, you might get in more with some speculative hands like suited connectors and small pocket pairs because you will likely be paid off by the fish if they hit any piece.

Many players with whom you will meet at the tables at the lower limits, will make serious mistakes at every step. You do not have to be genius enough to be better than they are. It's just, you just:

Play aggressively, play strong hands and play in the position;
Less bluff - bluff less (particularly large), the less mistakes you can make;
Do not get attached to the cards - pass will often be the best solution when you do not
You know what to do, and look at the map you will still have time to opponents;
Follow the basic rules of bankroll, never to recoup;
Do not think about the distribution of short-term results, one session;
Keep right mentality during the game.
And you will succeed!
Good luck at the table!)
