You know unfortunately tournaments do not really show the best players, two reasons, in most cases this is free, so no one has to put up their own hard earned money and usually it is a one hand all in, in w2hich case luck is usually the winner not the best player. Some people win by calling with not so good hands, if they had to put actuall money would not and they win with luck, but that is just my opinion as I play both for money and free, and would always rather be lucky than good, Good Luck Too all unless you are playing against me :)

Um, sorry, but I might have missed the point here. Uh what are you actually trying to say? That freerolls are luck or all tournaments in general. I might agree with freeroll, leaning ab it towards luck and more reckless side, because it is a freeroll. But, I can't agree with yoru comment that all tourneys are all luck. I think you may need to play a bit more tournament poker to realize what you are saying. But maybe I completely misread what you were trying to say, so, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, hope you still have fun playing poker with your attitude.

ok

I would like to quote what a well known person said once.

in any given hand there might be 95% luck but over the course of a thousand hands its about 95% skill.

of course there is luck in a tournament, you would be a complete moron not to believe that but over the course of 1,000 tournaments the more skilled player will come out on top.

I was really talking about freerolls where people really have nothing invested

I think a truer statement would be that freerolls bring out a different playing style in people because they don't pay. The cards fall the same regardless of the price, but many people put themselves in different positions to capitalize on luck. But I'll bet you that there are more freeroll donkey losers than donkey winners who all use the same "gamble on a luck play" method.

I used to be the type who didn't like to play freerolls because of all the dumb all-ins. But now I find them good practice and I enjoy trying to outfox the donkeys. Such fun!

but you also pick up bad habits and take them to real money games and get crushed.

I think freerolls help sculpt better players. If your still developing or have bad habbits playing freerolls it will show quick. And most freerolls you can tell somewhat alright players from the players that go all in on the second hand of the start of the tourney and get burned. If anything I know more because of freerolls. I play better when stuff is free and I have a chance at winning some cash just like the tourney I was just in. I didn't place where I wanted #18 out of 200 on a free roll. But I've only been playing and learning for about a month and the one before that #350/4000 etc..

It really depends on the person and if you learn from your mistakes and try to gain more exp. through practice.

Wait the people in a free roll out in the beginning. Eventually the all in move is going to bite them in the butt. They will be caught with like a j q and you have pp q or aces and just stick it to them.
