Just wondering if anyone else has this issue..I do well in 25NL but do not quite have the roll yet. I get crushed in 5NL but it is what I am properly rolled with. I can't explain it but its just true.. Over 8000 hands in 5NL I have a 5bb/100 and its just not worth my time. So do I go unproperly rolled into 25NL and try to get lucky or just grind out 5NL (I have $190.00) on bovada.

Hi tacochip I played 1 and 2 cent when I first deposited on FF and got up to 5/10 cent and kept doing ok, so when I got to about $150 I tried the $25NL and it was like another world, and I lost at it because I had to play real tight because of my BR. So I started back down and had to go all the way again. And it felt like a waste of time. But I know at least 5 players that make pretty good at 5nl and 10nl. You just have to wait on the right hands. I like to play, so I don't take chances with losing all I have. Hope that helps. You are not alone, so post what is going on and many will answer.

If you cant beat 5nl, you wont beat 25nl. 8,000 hands is a miniscule sample.

What youregoodmate said.

1. If you can't beat 5NL in the long run then you can't beat 25NL in the long run, either.

2. 8000 hands is a meaningless sample. Literally meaningless.

In summary, if you don't stick to 5NL then you will bust.

When you said its not worth my time, this seems to indicate that $5 stack doesnt mean much when you lose or win a stack (i.e. a FISH), if thats the case then you wont be playing your best game.

Maybe whats happening, you do better at 25NL because you are playing a lot tighter because the money means more.

My advice which is more or less the same as others.

1.) dont think of the money at 5NL should try to play solid and build a roll.
2.) what about 10nl am I missing something you dont jump from 5nl to 25nl
3) take a shot at 10NL with 19 buyins if you lose 4buyins go back to 5nl. you should have at least $500 to take a shot at $25NL and even then lose 4 buyins go back to 10NL

+1000 to what everyone has said here , also a bit of variance at any level you are not properly bankrolled for is a recipe for going broke.......scorp

I appreciate the feedback except maybe being called a fish. However here is the difference I see. If you were put into a situation where maybe you had the best hand but were not sure, you will call for 2.50 because were talking a couple of double cheeseburgers..there is a chance for 12.50 you will not call and move on to the next hand. I'm just thinking you put way more pressure on your opponents seems like less gambling and more strategic play.

Winning at 25 and losing at 5 just doesn't make sense. I'll echo some of the other sentiment and say your not playing your best game at the 5 tables. Buckle down and try to take the smaller stakes seriously maybe? Good luck!

got a sample of poor hands, ie they are very few hands.
If you NL5 sentis cost you, instead of thinking up to higher levels you should go down to NL2 and NL5 if it costs you in NL25 will get worse. hug

If you are playing for stakes that don't have a lot of meaning to you, it will affect your play. There are a lot of tourney options to build a bankroll, I think you can grind on Bovada and build a reasonable bankroll in a few weeks or months depending on how you run. I think more bad habits are learned playing against opponents you don't respect and your ego may be bruised you can't beat fish who are lucky because the money is meaningless to them as well - If you can manage your bankroll at the higher stakes - continue playing them if you go on a downswing play 5 dollar tourneys and under til you hit a nice score.

The reason 5nl is harder for you because the players don't bluff as much. 25nl players bluff more. 25nl is actually a harder game to win at, but at 5nl it can feel more like a grind. People at 5nl and 2nl wait for the nuts and seem to only bet with the goods. You are probably calling people down too much if I was to take a guess.

You still need to understand the tendencies of the lower tables in order to get a good grasp on proper strategy. Perhaps you have found a static style that works at the 25nl level, but eventually someone might exploit that style and you'll have a hard time adjusting to it.

In other words you need to beat 5nl and aquire an adequate bankroll before moving on. Also if you get unlucky you lose your bankroll and have to start all over.

On a side note. I've never really understand how people say you need a ridiculous number of hands to prove that your a winning player. Variance is big, but no where near that big.

Just because your don't understand something, that doesn't mean that particular something is incorrect.

I have a Masters in Applied Stats and I play poker for a living, and I'm telling you that 50K is the minimum number of hands anyone should be using to decide whether or not they are profitable at a given level --- and 100K is a much more reliable number.

You can choose to believe that or disbelieve it --- but I promise you that it's true.
