history of villian: raises strong, limps most hands, running on a heater, has been caught getting carried away with hands.. sitting at ~1.7k

action is limped around to me i call 5.
4 runners

flop comes; J, Q, 3 rainbow
check to me i bet $15
1 fold, 2 callers
turn comes 8
villian bet $40
1 fold
i re-raise to $120
he re-re-raises to $300

I feel he could either be representing 9 10 or 2 pair. If youve been playing with this guy at your table a while you should be able to know if he bluffs alot, but I think the re-re-raise kinda means hes got something. More than likely the 9 10 with the amount hes betting representing the nutz. It really how well youve learned the guy your playing against here I feel, but I wouldve bet way more after the flop to get rid of someone chasing a str8.

yeah, well from what i had watched of him there wasn't much to take information from in terms of 3-4bets since no one ever really challenged his stack.

and i just couldn't shake the feel he had JQ2p, maybe was too arrogant with my set..

So if I understand correctly this guy limped in and then called your raise??? if that's the case I am going to have to push QQ or JJ aside and figure something like QJ, or AQ - MAYBE KK.
Or as mentioned - straight draw that is getting out of hand. So I am way ahead of most of his range.

What does he have me on? AJ? AQ? KQ? KJ? bluff monkey?

I'm going to escalate this war and hope he gets carried away to the point of putting his stack in. Depends on how sophisticated I think he is. What bet can I make here to make him think I want him to go away (so he won't). Or do I minraise to try to get him to shove/re-raise on me?

From the sound of it I would call his raise. I think hes representing a straight draw because he would have jammed the pot with a top set on the flop

910 looks very likely here. Very tough to lay down, but the more I think about it the more I want to fold here.

Disclaimer: I doubt I'd be good enough to fold in the heat of the moment though.

Nice to hear im not alone in having thought i was good.. =p

I had ended up shoving my ~$800 after his re-re-raise. He calls shows 9,10 off.

No pairing on the board or another 3 on the river, and i lose the 2.2k pot. =[

Its easy for me to say 910 and a possible fold in a post. Much harder to do at the table, and as I said, It'd be very hard for me to lay that down. Just a cooler.

I have the luxury of having seen the result, but my first thought when reading was "the board straights, and you raise?" By raising you only force out bluffs. You get called or re-raised by the nuts. When you get re-re-raised, folding is the clear choice. Personally I would flat the turn and fold or call the river depending on the bet size, even if board pairs.

I've already seen the results, but that does not change my thinking. Had he raised before the flop, I would have been more aggressive like you were. However, even though you don't respect his bets based on his play, and because it was a limped pot, I would have just CALLED his bet on the turn. Besides 9/10, he could have just as easily flopped a higher set. And if you filled up on the river, I would've called any bet at that point and paid off a higher set. But if he bet heavily again on the river and you whiffed on the full house, I think I would have begrudgingly thrown away the set.
