So here is a hand I came across last night during my session review, and I myself feel a 2x btn open can do the trick just as good as a 3x in a vacuum depending on who is in our sb/bb. I would like to know what other members thoughts are...?

Here is the hand, but again remember this thread im basically wanting to hear point of views of why or why not a 2x is useful or not vs a 3x and so on.

This hand is just an example.

I remember a couple years back when learning poker my coach verneer told me, what is the point of us opening hands up for 3x on btn we are not comfortable facing a light 3 bet from the blinds so why are we opening to 3x when we can take less of a risk and get the same result with a 2x?

Overall I have been having a lot of success min raising unopened pots from the button. I always just assumed a 3x open was standard until I was watching this series and really wanted to try out the min raise.

I like the thought process about facing a 3 bet from the blinds. I did have to start 2.5x raising from the button however against most opponents at my stakes. I play 4nl so the min bet often just gets called without them even thinking, and while that is generally good for me with position it doesn't get my premium hands many 3 bets (that being one of my favorite parts, being uniform and disguising the top of my range).

Yes I agree, I mean it def gives off a lot of information about your opponents range and how they react to it over a standard what they would expect 3x.

I think The micros like you said it doesn't make a real big difference at all, maybe until you hit NL50. But again, player dependant it can be used lower even at NL10 especially on pokerstars IMO.

Here's a fun min raise hand
