With regards to rake obviously the higher one is better right? In terms of skill are the players the same?

Iv'e recently started beating the lowest limit due to some changes and I've played the one up too and can't really tell much difference between the skill level. Should I stick to the lowest for now or move up one?

My BR is at $150.00 so it's debatable if I have the roll for 5nl? Some say I I do and I'm being nitty not moving up. I just thought 50+ buy-ins was recommened?

So i'd only have 30 buy-ins...and I'm not sure If I am comfortable with so little. My intentions was to get to $400.00 before I moved up..

I really am struggling with what to do for the best..

How much have you played before?

If you have a reasonable grasp of the game there really isn't much difference. It's worth taking a shot at 5NL and if you find the standard easy enough then stay there, else move down.

30BI is more than enough for micros.

Not to much. Well I've played 4500 hands at shorthanded before I knew anything about poker and lost $45.00...

Like I say, recently I've been playing better and feel comfortable playing the lowest limits..

ps: Your name rings a bell, do you play in the UK&ireland league on the evenings?

I would say you have a big enough bankroll to give it a go and if you don't like the higher limits then get out of there. I always to what i'm comfortable with and personally that's the lower limits, but it's also because my bankroll is a third of yours

Umm I don't, got a different username on Stars :) I play on iPoker under Pascal tho.

Check out RyanFee's shorthanded guide if you want to go that way, or there are plenty of resources on 2+2 for micro players. If you were a losing player at SH I'd be tempted to start from 2NL and build up confidence and experience as you go - don't stick around longer than it takes for you to feel comfortable though, make a little bit of money and move up

You're being nitty, move up.

It's not a huge risk moving up when you have 30 BI's for 5nl. You really shouldn't see a huge jump in skill level, but if it gives you problems you've got more than enough cushion to adjust or drop back down.

For sure move up.

Play at the next stake, if your comfortable and having some decent wins then its great. If you take a hit and don't feel ready, move back down

I tried my first online attempt just recently, played the 0.01/0.02 and didn't like it so I kept moving up until I was comfortable. I feel great at the 0.50/1 and 1/2 but obviously didn't have the bankroll. The bad beats shattered like 40% of my bankroll, then the Tilt got the rest. I shall be sticking to the 0.25/0.50 for now

My best advice, even though you're probably more experienced than me is to just move up and try it. If you like it, stick there and if not you can always just move down

Best of luck dude,

Move up to 5NL. If you are that worried about your bankroll just give yourself a decent shot at it. Say 10 buy ins. If you are down 10 buy ins in less than 10k hands then move back down, otherwise just keep at it. The skill level is just the same although there may only be four fish at each table instead of 5...

Probably THE biggest difference between 2nl and 5nl is the value of Overpairs vs aggression. At 2nl you can mash the bet pot button with a solid overpair (AA KK QQ) and wil loften get called by much weaker hands to the river. At 5nl if you are re-raised on the dlop or raised on the turn you have usually run into a set and you need to be disciplined enough to let go of your hand. You also need to let go of single pair hands vs large river raises.

So far, my ability to follow this advice has been somewhat deficient.:(

30 buy ins are more than enough for the micros.

If somehow you feel you're not comfortable there or are down about 10-15 buy ins, move down ($75 down would be more than enough for 2NL).

just do it man, take like a 15 bi shot then you can go back to 2nl comfortably if you fail. 30 BIs is really more than enough for 5nl

I think you should move up. See how comfortable you are playing and see how your success is on it. If you start to run bad or just don't feel comfortable then go back down.

Thread is nearly 2 months old. I'm sure OP has figured this out by now.
