Are there many differences between 2NL, 4NL and 10NL?

I'm just wondering if there are many big differences between these various stakes, particularly between 2NL and 4NL -if there are any at all. I'm only rolled for 2 at the moment but could easily deposit a bit more and get rolled for 4.

The thing is, although my poker skills are definitely improving, they're still not where I want them to be. I don't want to deposit more and find myself getting whooped at 4NL.

I'm not thinking of going up to 10NL, I thought I'd just include it in the question as it's still classed as microstakes.

Cheers guys!

Keep playing 2nl move to 4nl once you are rolled for it dont see A reason to deposit more as you should be able to crush 2nl if you have any kind of A brain:eek:

Well I am actually almost rolled for it through getting bonuses and rakeback though my actual "winnings" are negative at the moment. I've been running pretty badly and making a few mistakes but I'm generally playing well and improving all the time. I've been told by a few people now that generally 2NL and 4NL are barely any different in terms of fish and bad players so I kind of just wanted to hear other's thoughts about it.

I'm also curious about the changes between 4 and 10 just for my own knowledge really.

Well I am assuming you are playing on stars or tilt as I live in the u.s. I have no clue the difference in games their but their are plenty of people here who do.

No. They are similar. You will only need to make small adjustments based on the particular table make up.

you deposit simply bc you have better things to do with your time that crush 2NL for $2 an hour (which is completely crushing)

If you're able to deposit and have enough for NL4, you're already rolled for it. You just have part of your roll still in your pocket.

Given that you're a losing player before bonuses, I'd stick with NL2. One level higher isn't a great deal tougher, but since you don't really have an edge to begin with, you're better served to stay where you are while improving your game.

This is what I've been thinking. Perhaps I should stay at the micro micros while still trying to maximise my potential.

However... Whereas my first month and a half I was definitely making mistakes and costing myself money, this past month, I've just made it positive and my EV is actually £25 - 12.5 BIs for the month. So I've been running badly but making the right plays.

So this is why I'm a little torn. I'm making the right plays and almost at the right roll for moving up but I've been running badly and I'm only almost at the right roll due to rakeback and bonuses. I'm a losing player by definition but not because of bad play as such.

I appreciate everyone's input so far - thank you!

Also, I should add that yes technically I am "rolled for it" but I've only ever played poker with free money and I'd like to keep it that way unless I feel very confident about moving up to a much higher stake. I'd like to continue earning my roll.

They're pretty much exactly the same. Most of the differences will be in your head. Play the tendencies of the opponents in front of you, there is no overall style for every player at a level.

The thing that I found pre-BF was playing 2-10NL was exactly the same, just different people with disposable income. The big thing here is that you can lose more at 10NL than 2NL. If you can beat one, you can beat the other though.

Surprisingly, there can be regulars at 10nl, but they are probably as good as you are.

Just deposit if you have the means. I mean playing nl$2 is fine if you are playing for fun, but like any hobby if you want to take it seriously just put a few bob into it.

That is 100bb/hour... how many tables is assumed for this? I play 1-3 tables and win around 20-25 bb/100 hands (with 3 tables I am actually losing since I lose many of the advantages I have while playing 1 table).

I started from zero on December 16th and am at 60$ now. I plan to get up to 500$ (100 buyins) before taking on 0.02-0.05... but it is going to take me a good while (lets say 4-6 months unless I get better at multitabling).

0 to 60 is insanely impressive. I'd say keep doing what your doing and don't make a deposit. You'll be able to move up in no time if you keep winning at the rate you are and if you're on a heater you'll learn that too. Learn to add more tables at the smallest of stakes and then move up when rolled :)

Good luck!!!!!!!!!

Thanks, but I actually suck a lot :( have shored up the worst mistakes though due to massive help from people here and some reading on the side.

Some of it is from freerolls. In fact my first 6.5$ was from freerolls, after that I started doing cash tables and it was pretty tricky until I got a bigger BR.

The problem is my style of play is in large part dependent on observation of opposition, so when I add a 3rd table this drops down sharply (but I can do 2 cash tables and 2 tournaments with no problems, since the tournaments are on autopilot until top 200 of so).

I imagine after maybe 6th table or so it will be impossible to do my style even when I get better, so I will have to adjust somehow to be more automated.

P.S. I looked into my account history and I out of current 63$ (+ 2 T$) I have earned 18.75$ (+ 2 T$) from freerolls, the rest is from cash games. Freerolls are pretty great for us beginners :D
