Hi guys,

I play cashgames online, with reasonable succes. I only find I have one problem: I don't (know how to) stop on my moment supreme. Sometimes I have 2, 3 times my buy in and should obviously leave and count my money. But because I'm cleaning up, I want to stay - which at some points leads to me losing part of my winnings and in bad cases even losing my buy in.

Do you guys have mental tricks to make yourself stop and be content with the cash that you've made?

Have to remember always in your mind that many people had experienced like

this in casinos. They win some, felt greedy and lost all.

Mind of matter

Sadly I have the same problem! I tell myself all what the heck I'm 3x my buy in i have nothing to lose! Find myself with a great hand then end of getting unlucky and losing it all! If there are any tricks i think it comes down to changing your mentality! Poker is a game of patience and knowing when its not your time!

If you are playing in a game where you have an edge, your profit is not important. How you are playing is.

If you are in a game where you do not have an edge, ask yourself why.

Do not play depending on the win and on time, for example 2 hours, timing this time came up or lose 5 stacks.

Do you not like playing deep-stacked? I feel most comfortable when I am a couple of buy-ins up and like playing long sessions. If you are tilted when playing long sessions then that is different but I don't see why you need to leave just because you are a few buy-ins up.

You could always buy tilt breaker and set either a time limit or stop loss. If your play is affected because you are scared to lose your stack you can rat-hole + work on your game until you are crushing that level and are comfortable deep-stacked.

If you are in a game where you do not have an edge, ask yourself why.

This, if the game is good and you feel like one of the better players, then don't leave.

If the table dynamics have changed and you feel as if you are not one of the top players at the table, then leave.

Also leave if you are starting to feel mentally exhausted or tilted. You should almost never leave a table to protect your profits unless you are a losing player.

I usually try to set a limit for myself, where if I drop below it I can still leave with a profit.

If I feel that I'm one of the better players at the table though, it's hard to walk away from.

Employ stop losses not stop wins imo.

No one gets to consistently leave at the apex of their session. That's just the nature of gambling.

Also, don't manufacture wins.

If you are good a deep stack, holding bigger chip stack is more profitable for you in the long run. On the other hand if you only play well with less than 100BB, it is ok to leave and join another table with 100BB

I love it when someone donks their way up to the river and stacks a TAG player at showdown. Then the donk leaves either due to embarrassment or to lock in the gains and runs to a different table.

A true hit & run :(

limit set for themselves within a threefold increase from the stack where I sit down at the table. If I start to play more then lose that previously won. You try to find a such a line

I would leave and start a new table if you want to continue. Play bad or get unlucky and lose your buy in? you are still up, and you are in position to access why it happened rather than being put in another hand.

I also play poorly deepstacked. Know your tendencies. If you do better (not just feel you do better, get some actual data on this) deepstacked, then by all means continue.

This! Leave with your profit and go to a new table. After a certain period of time you can go back to the other table with a regular buy in. That said, I should follow my advice more often...lol!

The same thing with me. Everytime I play cash games I set a goal to win at least 2 buy-ins. Most times i'm able to do this, but when I fail to do this I start doing real stupid things. I lost my buy-in and to make things worse sometimes lost buy-in after buy-in trying to win my money back. Now I try my best not to do it.

I don't think your problem is leaving too late but rather how you are playing when you run good. Leaving when you are ahead isn't going to affect your long-term results. There is no difference between losing at the end of one session or losing at the beginning of another. You can't "avoid" losses. Work on staying disciplined and playing good poker regardless of how much you are winning or losing.

^^^ Pretty much in a nut shell. If you're running good & playing good, why LEAVE? I'd only start making my way for the exit though, if I'm getting outplayed or start to go on tilt. However, if you're motivated & getting it in good, keep on playing!

Just don't get (CC chat filter lol) ->cacky/loose and start spewing off your profits at the table.

Hi.

I think that it's not polically correct what I will suggets but it's the better: when you are playing cash games and you are winning 2 or 3 times your buy in, close that table, collect your profits and open another table with the same buy in than the table that you were winning.

Certainly you will not lose everything if you do that. Unless you play and lose, and invest again and lose... The limit should be at least stay with the same bankroll that you have when you start in that day!

It's called bankroll management and it means you should try to play games that you can afford to lose, because some sessions you will just lose all your chips even if you make the right decisions. People say you should have about 40 buyins in your bankroll. So if you have a bankroll of $80 and buyin is $2 then you should maybe cash out if you make it to $6 and then buy in again with $2 to keep in your bankroll range. But if you're at a table with many weak players maybe it's a good idea to stay anyway because your chances of winning are bigger.

The most important thing in cash games is knowing the time to get out...

You should know that you are going to be good in a moment, but if you keep on the game, you are going to lose.. always

good topic and ideas....

"taking the money and run" says everything

Another very important thing in cash games is betting with the money that you can lose. That means you should have always more than 40 bb and bets little parts of it...

Go when the game ceases to be good, to go after a certain time and go after reaching the limit on the winning or losing and all ....)))

Its always refreshing to hear a player is doing great. I would think when you are ahead and your cards are running good, set a goal and stay awhile longer, if you reach that goal take the money and run. There will be other days to test your skills and luck.
