This is in the nature of poker, something we cannot avoid in tournaments but certainly can with ring games. The problem is that when you have doubled or tripled your buy-in you cannot simply bank the winnings and risk loosing it all. It is therefor much better to find another table where you only risk 1 buy-in and keep the rest out of harms way until the time has elapsed on your stack at the winning table when you can return again.
I think greed plays a big part in it, if you won one hand then stick around and wait for another. You are dealt pocket rockets which you slow play from under the gun, the action fires up but you happily shove all in you will now have 6x the buy-in. But you lose it all to the big blind who hits a set of jacks on the river (true story but you have your own). If instead you should leave after the first win! It makes sense to sit out the orbit you've paid for right, maybe you are dealt bullets under the gun before you get to leave.
