I don't play on pokerstars or full tilt, but table selection is important, and becomes more important as you move up. My general guideline if there isn't one fish at your table find another table, with having those two sites at your disposal you should never run into a problem here. In terms of general guidelines look at tables with high flop % and big average pots.

Fish:
1.Sitting with not full stack.
2.Doesnt have AUTOreload on.
3.Often limps.
4.Plays a lot of hands.
5.Makes stupid plays like calling full pot size bets with bottom pair or chases 10high flushes.
6.After losing big pot writes in chat (die :) , get cancer etc.)
7.Has BRONZESTAR

Basically just look at players per flop % and look for tables more than 30%
You can filter that you could only see tables with more than20-30-40% (whatever you prefer).
Sit at that table and look who is shorstacked or with bronzestar or chromestar.

Good luck.

For me it's generally hit or miss ,I've never really been able to pick one out over the other ,you can get a program that directs you towards those kinds of tables ,but I never really noticed a big difference when I had it , I go for the higher player per flop % ,that just lets me know some of the players are playing to many hands.

Simple

you want plenty of money at the table and lots of action and large pot sizes

this holds true for all poker whether live or online

bonus points if there are vendettas and ego flame wars going on and if its a live game if there is plenty of drinking, laughing, and loud talking going on...

use colour coding to label bad players, build like a portfolio - your own database,

maybe search the official poker rankings and sharkscope stuff
if you can determine the 1 dimentional players then you should find it easy to control your table .

limp limp , fold fold,
raise, call , raise call

calls a raise/re-raise OOP fish check folds the flop, easy money

tries to bluff OOP folds to a re-raise or folds the turn after being floated,
