Strongest stud hand at showdown that did not win

In hold'em we have all had the experience of losing with a 'monster hand.'
Perhaps our nut flush ran into a full house or full house ran into a higher full house or quads.

Especially in the last two cases, this situation is not so uncommon, due to the 'shared' board cards - if there are three aces on the board that it is not inconceivable that our full house may not be the best hand.
In stud, this is not the case.

I was wondering if anyone could recall a strong hand that they witnessed that did not win at showdown. In particular, has someone ever lost a hand in stud with a boat or something stronger?

It was many years ago, but I had a full house and lost to a better full house in 7 card stud. It was near the end of a game that had been going on pretty much all night, and I was way up. We obviously got a lot of money in......... :-(

As I said, it was many years ago, so I dont remember exactly our cards, but my boat was the smaller one.......

Wow! Thanks for sharing. Both are pretty extreme examples. Impossible to not lose the maximum here.

I haven't had much experience in stud, but I have lost full house vs. full house in 5 card draw, no limit so I got knocked out

In the game I got a straight flush against Royal, that was a bummer.

I'm reaching that "old timers" age. Some would say I'm well past it. Cheeky bu**ers. However, I've never been to Foxwoods, so it it was not me. But I have had 3333 beaten by 6666 once. It was one of those pokerstars astronomer free rolls many moons ago, so no harm was done to my bankroll.

I love playing cards with the old timers, maybe someday we will meet on the felt and share some laughs when we flip over our quads vs quads lol

I lost full house vs. full house three times in a session. (two to the same opponent) I don't think it's that extreme, because I always had a small full house (e.g. sixes full) and opponent had a pair higher than my three cards on the board every time. The betting action also hinted that I may be beat.

I think it was a good lesson - I should always be aware of all possibilities on the opponents boards, and be attentive to how much they raise.
