You are first to act, playing pot limit Omaha/8. You look down at the best starting value in the game.
Ah,2h,Ad,3d. You pick your eyeballs up off the table, and raise the size of the pot. You have 5 callers.
Flop=
Ac,4h,5h...
How many outs do you have right now?
How many flops are even better than this one, and what are they?
Why havent you voted at pokerprosvsearth today? lol.

Cool,
Bill

Apparently the first time I posted this the thread was broken.

9 outs for a nut flush.
6 outs for a full house, which will improve to 9 on the turn if you haven't made it already.
1 out for 4 aces
1 out for a straight flush, but this was already counted in the 9 hearts for a flush..

16 outs, which will improve to 19 on the turn.
Which by my caluclations means you'll improve to one of the hands mentioned above 61.3% of the time, and you've already got the low... so time to get as much money in the pot as you can.

i've been thinking of the flop and can't really see any better ones, assuming you hit the flush rather than the straight you could be splitting the pot to a better straight anyway

could also be splitting the low to anyone holding 23, which could be kinda possible with most of the aces accounted for

still a very nice hand to hold, but are you really going to get paid off that well with it?

(well against noobs its likely)

interested to see the answer though

I get the same out #s as Jon.

Only better flops I can think of are 3h4h5h and 2d4d5d for Lo: A-5 and Hi: A-5 straight flush. I thought of AA4, but then you have a realistically uncontestible high and are drawing to the nut low with the same number of outs (16), but there's the danger of counterfeiting and quartering that comes with drawing to the low, so AA4 is not quite as good. I'm still learning Omaha though, so I'm probably missing something.

Jon UK - dont diss omaha its quite good. Its so much easier to get a good hand as you have 4 cards. Its like texas hold em but with 2 more backup cards.

Plus the number of outs will probably be a bit less, as people may have folded the cards that you need, maybe before the flop.

You really shouldn't look at Omaha as Hold 'Em with 2 "backup" cards. A good Omaha hand is one where all 4 cards work together, and that's why hands like KK77 are garbage and should be mucked preflop. :p

I really wish we had some dedicated Omaha sections and discussion here. I really dig on the game, but am admittedly a rank amatuer when it comes to playing it. I can beat the low limit online games, but that's just because they're super fishy and full of dead money.

I agree, there should be some omaha sections on this site. I like omaha alot, I consider Hold em my best game but I love to play omaha and 7 stud too and I think I am pretty decent at both. I agree that omaha should not be viewed as hold em with backups, as Dorkus mentioned a good starting and is one that all 4 cards work together. It is so much harder than holdem in my opinion b/c there are so many possibilities. At a full table you rarely see anything less than a straight win the high, and I rarely see high pocket pairs hold up unless you hit the set. Even full houses aren't a sure lock b/c someone else could be holding a higher one. Suited connectors are the best thing I think in an omaha hand, with maybe a suited A. Anyways, those are my thoughts on the game.

As a side, talking about best starting hands in omaha hi, I was watching omaha on ESPN and Norman Chad said AAKK double suited is the best starting hand in omaha hi. Would you agree? I really don't agree with that, since you already have the aces, why do you need the Ks unless you are looking to flop a set. Wouldn't something like AKAQ or AKAJ double suited be better? this would give you more straight possibilies plus the pair of aces which are both suited ti give you the nut flush. Any thoughts?

Alas, so you like me ram and jam, you can't get chips in there fast enough!
A non suited 10 hits on the turn, followed by a non suited 8.

You split the low and lose the high to a 67 straight straight high.
You have just lost your ass! (so did I by the way)
Wow, Omaha is tough!

Thanks for all the comments, Omaha is a great game...And the skills learned playing it will greatly improve holdem skills.

I think purely statistically speaking AAKKd is the biggest favourite over any selection of random cards, though pure stats can lie sometimes. I'd take AAQQd over it in a loose game for the extra implied odds that come from the possibility of someone holding a K high flush and making me rich.

It's a matter of playing style and taste more than anything.

Dorkus That is interesting about taking AAQQd for the second nut floush giving you action. Im gonna run that down. In Omaha(high only) I kinda like AKAQ double suited.
For the extra outs. I don't know, does that make sense?
