Hey guys, I needed some advice on playing at my home game. Apologies in advance for the lengthy post. The game is not high stakes, is usually 9 handed, out of which I along with another player are the only TAGS. The rest are absolute fish - I'm talking about players who will see a flop no matter what, who hit a pair and tag along till show down. There is an uncapped straddle and everyone except myself does so every single hand. The average straddle is 4xBB. My image at the table is that of a solid player and most of the time when I'm in a hand the betting is still somewhat sane compared to when Ive folded. I'm a tournament player and adjusting to this cash game is a pain for me. I'm up 90% of the time at this game , but I've gotten tired of constantly folding till I'm dealt premium hands. I've had terrible luck with AK , AQ at this table..I limp more often than raise pre flop with these hands and my game till now has pretty much been trapping and going all in..that is, I call a bet preflop, wait till its raised enough and then go all in and I get a few calls everytime.

i'll list a few bad beats to give you an example, I'll raise with AK, get called or even 3 bet, see a flop of 2-5-K rainbow, C-bet, get raised all in and get beat with 5-2 .. tonight, I raised with AQ, got 2-3 callers, flop was A-10-5, C-bet 3/4 the pot, next card was a 10 and the guy who took the pot had called with 10-3 ..this happens constantly. I tried playing low connectors today (2-3)..flop was 2-3-Q..this whale makes a pot sized bet , I raise, the guy instantly put me on a set/2-pair but still goes all in! ..he shows A-Q , the next two cards were 7 and another 7..and ofcourse his bigger two pair took it.. you may think these are just rare examples but they're not! this happens constantly.

my range is pretty much AA-QQ-KK-JJ-AK-AQ-AJ-KQ and high connectors 10-J, 9-10, 8-9 suited and off, I dont play Aces with kickers below 8 usually.

my style of play has worked so far for me ..like i mentioned i'm up 90% of the time, but its a boring game, I'll be down the first 3 hours or so, and then when one of my premium hands holds up i'll make it all back plus more.. The flop is always a nightmare if I dont hit because guys who'll have nothing will make huge continuation bets or hit some bottom pair and took large pots. I could get pocket Q's and raise 5xBB , get callers, if the flop shows an Ace some guy'll take it from me with A-2 or some other weak Ace.

how would you guys play at this table? should I widen my range? call these ridiculous straddles with weak holdings? should I still stick to raising pre flop with premiums or keep trapping? I cant seem to get the hang of this game.

If you are up 90% of the time, I don't see the problem really :D

I can play the patience game and wait for my spots but it gets terribly boring. I was just wondering if there were any adjustments to be made because this one LAG at the table is up 90% of the time too, way more up than I ever am and he see's 4-5 times the flops I do.

I have seen such player in 2NL, has 70+ VPIP and plays badly yet is almost always up.

I analyzed him a bit and saw that he folds when he is surely beat, jams when he is almost surely ahead, and sometimes tries to call down with weak pairs and such.

The trick is that his jams get paid off a lot so the bleeding of money from high VPIP, folds and losing with those medium pairs when he tries to catch bluffs gets compensated. Basically he prospers from other fish since he has a semblance of sense hidden behind the fish stats.

When we are on the same table (which is a lot since I am actively looking for him when I start playing :D) he usually gets more money from other fishes than I do (70% VPIP vs. 13-15% VPIP) but:
1. he makes the table lively which is +EV for me too
2. occasionally I nail him with strong hands (and use him as "money channel" for other fishes money), although he caught on and is mostly avoiding me unless with something close to the nuts

I am not entirely convinced that this is long term feasible and I imagine downswings are insanely brutal.

the guy I was talking about seems remarkably similar to the one you're describing. Probably around the same VPIP if not more and is almost always massively up and the same here, he tries to avoid me unless hes drawing to the nuts. He plays low connectors alot , seems to hit gutshots ever now and then for a wheel etc

widen your range hugely. play any suited connectors/low pocket pairs/ etc in position, raise big with premium. play the players after the flop
