Last night I started a home poker game with my roommates and a couple other guys. This is going to become a every week event. $10 buyin tourney style, nlhe. Between 6-10 guys will show up every week.

They all know how to play poker; however, they arent familiar with starting hands and poker as we know it. Their below average poker players that play any two cards in front of them and every now and then they fold pre-flop but not much. They all like to limp in, no raise preflop.

I've been playing poker for quite awhile and know what I'm doing. What kind of strategy do I use of these type of players? Thoughts/Comments are welcome.

This will sound really silly but trust me.....
Buy a whole lot of beer....
Don't drink any of it but offer freely to all poker players
Play your A game
Get a wheel barrow for all the money you'll win.

yeah, play it tight. forget about bluffing, let them have their fun here and there. when your AK hits and they called with A7, and will call you down just cause of that ace..you'll get em. string it out...unless one is being a total sissy, bluff him, cause he's not really that cool anyway is he? he's just a tag-a-long anyway...yeah, bluff him....i think i kicked that guy's ass once

Homegames are awesome, none of my friends will play me though! You should be able to win your home game a large majority of the time.

Raise big preflop when you have a strong hand. Try to narrow the field as much as possible. See flops cheap with hands with good potential, 56s, 33 etc and if you hit 2pair plus then bet and keep betting do not slow play.

Also go for thin value, have TPGK then try to get at least two streets of value if not three for it.

Hope this helps.

Sit down with a great group of friends. Have a few pops and great number of laughs and enjoy yourself.

It doesn't get any better than that.

^^^This. The more they drink the looser their play and their reads magically disappear!

^^^Yes. Play it tight, these guys are new, will make many mistakes, the biggest ones for noobs are playing too tight, being calling stations.

I love a table full of calling stations. MMMMMMMMMMMMM. LOL. If you combine UKALIKS attitude with SPIDERMAN's strategy, and totally ignore the nice guy approach of EXIT141RTe1, throw in a little dweezel technique - THERE PAYCHECKS ARE YOURS!!!!

TBH I really dont see the point in trying to beat these games.

You should be able to do well by just having a clue about poker. But really the whole point of these is to drink beer and have a laugh with your friends.

Its difficult to come up with any kind of stratagy (other than play tight and be aggressive) with people who arent playing any strategy of their own.

I personally would just buy a crate of beer, pay the $10 fee and just have a fun cheap evening like the others intend to.

You should win a few by virtue of the fact you can play.

But to really play properly you cant get drunk etc.. which is the whole point of the home game. Its not supposed to be taken seriously... thats what casinos are for!

This is how you win you buy a lot of beer (preferably the cheap kind for your sake) and then let them drink a hour before the tournament and then you have to get a television in that room so they get distracted. The only thing you have to worry about is someone going crazy like most drunk are and flip your poker table lol.

you sound like you have a great advantage over him besides its just mostly for fun right if its your friends so you should probably take it easy on them for sure unless they drink all your beer
