I have just joined this site recently and was looking around, didnt see much post opportunities because many people talk about things that are beyond me, such what cards in which position.
While I was reading and trying to learn from google searches, the only thing I have really truly paid attention to was the percentage of winning for each hand and thats what I used to my advantage. Ive also read about position and the advantages it gives you and Ive learned to use it to determine times for when to bluff, call, bet and raise. But I havent applied my position to my cards too much which seems to be what alot of people do.
I just wanted to make this thread and ask people, do you think that an average player who doesnt use the strategies most people use can play good? Ive won 3 freerolls and 2 sngs so far just on basic strategy and playing tight aggressive which seems to somewhat work. I concentrate more on starting hands than I do position, and position to me is only to help me decide on calling or betting.

i think quality starting hands are a great starting point for anyones game, position is of equal importance because it is alot easier for you to raise a hand, than to call one. alot of people seem to play anything out of the blinds but don't forget you are the first to act after the flop. you will have to act first with no information on anyones hand, hardest position to play.

position

Position is really important to me. Getting the good cards helps out too along with knowing when to raise by watching the way people tend to play. I'm still learning and have plenty yet to learn.

Things like position are incredibly important in poker. That being said, it is possible to become a capable, profitable player without learning anything about it. Poker fundamentals, like starting hand value, are much more important at the beginning, in my opinion.

Of course, at some point you're going to hit a ceiling in your abilities, and that's where the advanced skillset (position, stealing blinds, bluffing, etc) really adds value to your game.

I agree on what he is saying, its always good to play tight aggressive and use the position you are in wisely by making the right decisions...
