Hello All, First time posting but have followed the forum for some time now.

I am looking for some tips on a piece of my game that seems to come around too often.

I play mostly live cash games here in Miami 1/2NL and occasionally 2/5NL. I usually buy-in for around 150 in the 1/2 and too often I have myself short within the first hour, normally down to $60-70. Once I am down I tighten it up and most of the time can pull myself out without having to re-buy. I do not have a problem re-buying if I made the right call and/or played the hand correctly, but I don't think I should be short so often at the beginning of the session.

Sometimes I think that I may be playing too many hands at the beginning, which is an easy fix, but I was wondering if any of you folks had a more in-depth strategy to clean up my game at the beginning of the session.

I am confident that even some of my best sessions could be better if I do not handicap myself so early.

Any tips?

Cheers.

Just nit it up from the very first hand. These games are mostly rec-fish, and they aren't paying any attention whatsoever. They aren't noticing you're splashing around, and they won't notice if you didn't play a hand for the first few orbits either.

Sit out unless you have a really good hand, and use that down time to observe and get a line on their play. Once you know how they play, then you can decide to open up.

maybe try to make a goal of only playing premium hands in the first 30 min until you have a good line on your opponents, or even distract yourself with a phone or chatting or television (not optimal but neither is spewing)
