This may not be the best example of it (in fact its probably sort of the opposite), but i've included one below.

5 card draw is one of the first games i learned to play, and needing a little change from hold 'em, i've been playing the $1 sng's on stars. My question is, does the 'stand pat bluff' work? by that i mean the play in which you discard no cards, regardless of what you have, and then bet as though you were delt a 5 card hand (straight, flush or boat). i've met some people who swear by it playing in these games, and it's one of the few real 'plays' i've noticed in the game. also, as in the example below, is there anything, other then a history of making such plays (and the fact that it's a cheap buy in, as though that were an excuse), which would justify you to make the move that my opponent did in the example below. In a lot of ways i think this game is a cash cow, and i'd be interested in hearing other opinions, strategys, and resources as to where i could find more info. thanks.

In my opinion 5 card draw should only be played live. Its a game about tells and with only 2 rounds of betting you will not get them from that.

You would have to use it if you are delt 2 pair, trips , maybe with aces or kings but then it wouldnt be a full bluff. You could probably push a stronger hand out if you have been having a decent run of cards.

Now I havent played 5 draw seriously since 1994 (yes I was 14 years old) but I did really well at it when I went with my grandfather to the poker club.

I had my first run in with 5 card poker at stars this week...And may I say it was AWSOME. I had A A 4 5 7 in my hand..So I threw 3 cards. ( was on a open table and with 30$ on the table) and to my surprize I got back J,J,J Giving me aces full of jacks. And so I push all-in . 3 people are in the pot. Someone urges the other players to call me. ( they thought I was bluffing because I threw 3 cards) and I was thinking in my head ooo plz plz plz call. And sure enough someone called for 30$ came to a 64$ pot I won with a Fullhouse they were disgusted and went on to tell me it was a 1-5,000 chance that would happen. I like 5 card draw :)

I use this bluff at least once in every SNG I do... And it works 9 outta 10 times.. (On B2B network tho .. so many fish.. and the 10th time I did it right into quad aces...)

It's great when you do the stand pat bluff then you actually get a nice hand, stand pat bet out and the guy calls thinking ur bluffing again :D
