i don't remember enough of the hand history to post there, but i had ace/big and bet 4bb to open and was called. and the flop matched my big card and had two disconnected rainbow rags with it. i bet pot and was called. turn was another blank rainbow so there were no live flushes or straights so i bet pot again. he called again. last card comes and i stare at the board a bit struggling to figure how i could be beaten except possibly by the last low card hitting trips on the river, but i bet pot again and he called again and showed aces that were there the whole time.

any tips on spotting slow played aces to save money the first time you see it at a table?

Not sure

I believe slow played aces are as hard to see as a set. I don't think there is much you can do about either one. I just play the cards that I am given and hope a player didn't slow play an over pair or hit a set. Good luck !

aren't you overplaying top/top betting the pot on 3 streets?

and I'm also not a big fan of the 4bb opening of.

If you are making pot size bets and they are calling you down to the river assume they have an over pair or a set.

limping and re-raising preflop can be a sign of slowplaying aces. Letting opponents barrel multi-streets quickly can be a sign of slowplaying big pocket pairs.

It depends a lot on the behavior of the opponent, and what kind of hands he plays, watch more of this and you will be fine

You are making a mistake by betting pot for three streets with top pair - usually you will not get called by worse. Try betting smaller or going for only two streets of value. Be thankful he didn't re raise you on the river and put you in a tougher situation.

Slowplayed Aces are rare and mostly done by fish. Occasionally some regs might flat with Aces and check-call the flop on a dry board. Particularly if they are in in position against another reg with a high foldto3Bet. They know they might lose them too early if they raise. So they represent a weaker hand by flatting and going for delayed value. It's risky but I've seen it happen more frequently than it should. Most players however slowplay big hands badly. Observant opponents know when a player deviates from their normal behaviour and will be on their guard.

Cold calls on every street is an alarm! When you are barreling and the villain is simply cold calling 7/10 times it’s an over pair or a set, especially if you check the river and he shoves after a bet line like this, it’s better to fold, 7/10 you lose and 3 times you gonna win and make a bluff catch, not really profitable. But again it depends on the data you have against the player. There is a guy at 100nl who is doing it and I know the guy, but there is another guy who is playing also and I can fold pocket aces against him because I know when he is calling like this he has a set.

Calling after the flop and beyond is usually what raises a red flag for me.
