So you are in a hand and your very strong read is that you have the nuts or near nuts but the hand is almostly certainly a split / chop.
Do you bet on the end when given the chance or not.. to reduce the rake? I suppose with all the rake back promos we should still bump it up anyway. This hand got me thinking about this issue.
As Stars was down I opened a few bet365 tables as they have a scratchcard promo based presumably on rake.

IPoker, $0.05/$0.10 No Limit Hold'em Cash, 6 Players

SB: $18.08 (180.8 bb)
BB: $10.80 (108 bb)
UTG: $11.83 (118.3 bb)
MP: $7 (70 bb)
CO: $3.48 (34.8 bb)
Hero (BTN): $13.40 (134 bb)

Preflop: Hero is BTN with A

J

UTG folds, MP calls $0.10, CO raises to $0.30, Hero calls $0.30, SB folds, BB calls $0.20, MP calls $0.20

Flop: ($1.25) 4

BB checks, MP checks, CO checks, Hero bets $0.90, BB folds, MP calls $0.90, CO folds

Turn: ($3.05) A

MP checks, Hero bets $1.52, MP calls $1.52

River: ($6.09) 9

MP checks, Hero bets $3.04, MP calls $3.04

you know Just thought I was bumping up the rake here...I mean was this guy asleep, I nearly didn't bet at all on the river.

Results: $12.17 pot ($0.81 rake)
Final Board: 4

How can you possibly ever not bet on the river? I'll bet it even against Phil Ivey. There is always a chance no matter what the board that your opponent might not buy your raise. And weird things always happen in poker like the call here.

You should only ever think about reducing rake in such situations if you get 2 bet or 3 bet on the river. If that happens then it all comes down to how much respect you give your opponent. Against an unknown opponent I am never slowing down unless we are talking really deep stacks.

This is a hand for all of those players who use the annoying phrase "they will never call with worse"

I think the point im making is if we have a board runout of AAAAK. Is there any point betting if we have a rake back promo going on. I suppose if you chasing a stars frequent player point target or such like it might be worth it. On bet 365 they are running this scratchcard promo where every now and then they issue a special golden card so there is an element of wanting to clear the lesser cards asap to try and hit that big bonus ..

It happens so rarely that it shouldn't make much difference either way. The most common would probably be nut flushes and straights on the board. There are situations that people misread the board or are just plain old fish and you can pick up the pot with a small bet.

That is only when you don't exactly have a monster hand yourself.

On that board I might bet against a fish who may have no clue what the situation is. I have made fish fold the nuts before with outrageous bets but whether its worth it or not I am not sure.
