I was in a cash game at a casino. I came across a situation where I was big blind and it all folded to small blind. Small blind turned to me and asked "Spilt?" I'm not sure what he meant. It was explained to me that it is better to spilt and take our blinds back rather than play them out because we would come out even anyway when casino takes their rake of the pot. This was done multiple times throughout the night. I never heard of this before and played there many times but never heard of this. Mind you, it is only when it's only between small blind and big blind preflop.

I've not seen this before, I'd suggest the small blind maybe has a weak starting hand if they ask to do this?

It's usually called a "chop" or "chopping the blinds" in the rooms I have played.

Usually a hand between the blinds in a cash game is going to be for a small pot, and the poker room will take rake from that pot. Often the blinds just agree to take their bets back, and the game moves on.

Some players always chop, some never do, and for some it depends on their hole cards.

Haven't came across this situation, but it kinda doesn't make sense for the house to allow that chop..
After all, they are all about making money, and not making players make money :D

The house would be glad to take some rake from this pot. But since these are usually small pots, the rake is also usually small.

There is some value for the house in keeping the game moving along and dealing lots of hands per hour. More hands means more rake, and the customers are less likely to get bored.

This is fairly common. Usually the house keeps the SB as a rake and the next hand starts. I never liked that, so I usually would only chop if I'm in the BB. Then there's no loss

When I think about it that does make sense..
Once in a cashgame I played, some guy went all in, got called and won, and when he counted his chips he was 5$ short, probably dealer messed things up, we were discussing what happened for couple of minutes when floor manager came, gave him 5$ from the pocket and said: "it costs me more when u are arguing and not playing" :D

Wow, I've never seen the house keep anything in a blinds chop. I don't understand what the point of chopping would be then.

Maybe it's a California thing? I travel for work and have played in a lot of places, but haven't played in CA.

I wish every floor had that much common sense.
