As the title says, I encountered someone saying that bet/folding the river for value was better than checking behind. Can someone explain why?
I think it is when checked to you on the river and you have a reasonable hand like 1 or 2 pair, is bet/folding or checking back the best play? Obviously betting can get opponent to fold worse and maybe even slightly better, but also gives the opportunity to call with slightly better or bluff checkraise us off our hand

We bet fold for the simple reason that people will call with worse, hence the value bet but they always have us when they raise. If they call with worse often enough, there is value in betting and we lose that value by just checking back. And if you have enough information that people bluff c/r the river then you can obvious reconsider the line to a b/c. It all depends on what you believe your opponents range is what they do with that range.

When villains range is made up of worse hands that will call and better hands that will raise we can sometimes bet for value. If there are more worse hands that will call then we can.

I think you may be getting confused about the reason why you are betting on the river. If you are betting the river for value we should not be bet/folding very often as our hand should be ahead of his perceived range (this can obviously change on the river if we get raised).

When we check behind on the river it should be because our hand has good showdown value against villains range and we don't want to inflate the pot more or give them the chance to raise our river bet.

Did you see ChuckTs recent thread about the reasons for betting?

I THINK YOU answered your own Question...when I play in .1/.2c ring games ...I keep just .40c at my table ...if I like my hand ..I bet...taking away any chance of someone bluffing...If I lose ..it's just .40c at most...If I win I more on to another table and start over never losing more than .40c ever...It's time consuming ...but taking away the bluff factor works for me alot! JMO...GL!

Olddog, be careful now. nobody likes people who do what you do. Just letting you know because it is seen as "unethical".

This thread has potential as a lolfest ( even though admittedly I shortstack 50NL about once a month lol)
