Hi everyone.

I'm trying my hand at SNG's.
I started with $3.00 and am try to build a bankroll from there, just playing SNG's and see how far I can go.
BTW, I'm playing at party poker.

If I place 1st, I move up to the next level.
If I cash, i stay at that level till I place 1st.
If I don't cash, I move down one level.

I can't seem to get past the 2nd level.
Here's how I've been doing so far.
I'll update this thread as often as I could.
Good luck to all!

It looks like you have a BR of $28. Instead of your current BR plan, try reaching a goal of X number of buy-ins.

It looks like your current level is $3. So that is about 9 buy-ins for $28. I would actually suggest dropping a level and try and aim for 20 buy-ins at $3 buy in. Then when that goal is reached, move up the levels and aim the 20 buy ins at that level and so on.

So, in order to play the $3 games, you should have a BR of about $60.

However, it looks like your getting results according to your chart, but look at your swings. I just think you might be moving up the levels to quickly and you're risking to big of a percentage of your BR. There is no problem in dropping down levels, though.

If you are doing this as an experiment to see how many steps you can climb, it looks like fun. But if you are doing this to build a bankroll, I would listen carefully to what philthy said above.

oops...
sorry for not being clear...

i was trying to build a bankroll in party poker from the $3...
not my actual poker bankroll...

after this, i will also be doing something similar to what philthy suggested...
a managed bankroll buildup...

thanks for the inputs!

I've been thinking a bit about this myself lately - provided you were properly bankrolled for the level you're starting at, while it goes against conventional bankroll management theory I don't think there could be any real problem with this strategy if you stick to it completely (ie: immediately dropping down a level if you don't cash).

Yes, you'll be playing in games that you're not properly bankrolled for if you use conventional bankroll management wisdom. But conventional bankroll management wisdom assumes you'll be staying at that level, and that isn't the case here: either you're finishing in the money and turning a profit, or you're dropping back down a level right away.

The catch in your situation, of course, is that you're not properly bankrolled for the level you're starting at. But then $3 isn't a proper bankroll for any level, so it's probably a moot point.

So... good luck I guess! I'd sure be keen to hear how you progress on this.

There is a boundary problem with your plan. When you lose a $3, you don't drop down but play another $3. It is really good that you did not lose the FIRST one, which would have been 100% of your bankroll. I am not suggesting you change your plan, just state that $3 is the lowest you will play until you are filthy rich or lose it all. You can't argue with the upward slope of your graph. :icon_porc

Oz and pigpen... good points...
and yes, 'twas lucky to win the first one...
i should have included the following rules:
- if i lose the first one, i'll go to freerolls...
- if i don't cash on the first level, i'll keep playing on that level till i bust my bankroll or win (and moving to the next level)

anyway...
here's an update...
major down swing...
then recovered...
finally made it past the 2nd level...

hope the graph keeps going up... :D
