well, it depends on the game type... But small raise check the flop for interesting cards... bet one more time and solid if the flop is good else slowplay them!

there is no "best way" to play any hand

in every situaution there the answer is always "it depends"

for example if there are flush and straight draws possible you would rather win the pot right there, things are never straight forward in poker

when i get a high pocket pair, such as J's Q's or K's, i try to fast play them somewhat. my greatest fear is of someone hanging around and catching an ace or someother draw which beats you. aces are slightly diferent though. i dont fast play them as much unless there are draws on the board.

Personally if i have a pair such as JJ or QQ i wil play aggressive to get the A8 and such outa the hand. If i have KK or AA i slow play a little more, and make a timely check-raise when appropriate

Maybe that's what I'm doing wrong...

Hi All,

Been reading your posts, wonderful insights and I'm sitting here thinking maybe that's what I'm doing wrong. It seems as if JJ is notoriously bad luck for me. I mean practically every single time I get them I lose. Even if I end up with that 3rd J on the board, someone has a straight or get this - the 3rd J is a club or a heart thus giving someone else their flush. Situation where it's helping me, but helping the other player better. Only now I'm stuck, calling cause really I'm not sure if the other guy is bluffing because I haven't been aggressive. Yes that magical card that boots me out usually comes on the turn or the river.

Perhaps I should play the JJ a little more aggressively in the beginning. Still I've found, there are some players that'll call you no matter how big the bet and funny thing - even though your hand is better starting out - in the end, they're victorious. Are they psychic or something(lol). Well, just my thoughts and I think I'll try playing a little more aggressively. I can see where I've lost a lot of pots because my lack of aggression would be considered slow playing - even though it wasn't on purpose. My thought pattern I guess is to milk the hand and see if I can get steady, more cash. Bad move on my part, milking turns into spilt, spoiled milk(lol).

Bye for now.:flybye:

One problem, unfortunatly,. I've found with slow-playing AA or KK is the fact of you always run the risk of them getting cracked. By only making a small raise you run the risk of someone calling with a low connector like 56 etc. Going back to a SnG I believe was at Pacific, I held AA in the BB, and raised the pot I think 3xBB and got 2 callers. Flop was something like J 8 3, so I obviously made a reasonable bet. Got one caller, who then caught a runner runner straight. This happened again a few hands later :(

JJ or QQ always get cracled for me too :(

fast

i have to agree with doobieman when it comes to fast playing big hands like AA KK before the flop...occasionally i'll try a slow play, but i always end up letting hands like 67 hit a straight or something

I say bet low preflop, to get some people out, then slow play after that.

you don't want to slowplay such hands as AA KK you want to make a big preflop raise... if some1 wants to play you he has to pay... cuz if you slow play such hands as AA KK QQ you can end up being beated by 2pair/flush/straith
so you have to play such hands strong.. so the only players call you would have hands like AQ or KJ something like that.. then you have big advantage over them...

imo slow playing is not very good..you let inferior hands catch up to you,,.suited connectors seeing cheap flops will bit you in the butt ...i make tight aggressive raises with overpairs and try to push out straight/flush draws and the dreaded ace rag

Dont slow play AA. They win small pots or lose big ones. Figure this, if no A hits on the flop you could already be beaten. So you dont want people to see a flop cheap.

imo nothing will cost your more money then to slop play AA,KK,QQ and JJ. You don't want to give anyone the chance to draw out on you, so it's best to run them out of the pot by being aggressive.

if you want to make the most money over a period of time not just one time you get a hand you cannot slow play. if you do you will lose enough money to break even

If you are going to slow play these hands and you get aggressive after preflop, then you must be ready to take a huge loss to your bankroll. It is a very hard thing to know where you are when playing KK and AA slow.

If I'm playing no limit and I get AA or KK. I would want to go all in. But if I'm up against tight players that don't like going all in I will make a raise about 5 or 6 times the BB ( maybe a little more), and hope to get at least 1 call. Then I will go all in and put my opponent on a decision.
