I'm sitting on BB, everybody folds, a 57/9 whale completes on SB (only have 35 hands on him).

What range of hands would you raise?
What is the raise amount that would get him to fold most of the time? 3BBs? 4BBs, 55BBs?

Am I assuming right if I think the whale is completing close to 100% of hands here?

I usually raise all pairs, all aces, and most suited broadways and suited connectors. I'll raise 5bb OOP and 4bb when they limp the small blind. With the premium hands I'll raise as much as I think they're willing to call.

Post flop I'll C-bet around half pot if I miss the flop but it hits my range. If they call, I'll give up if I don't improve on the turn.

Isn't it a mistake to cbet when the flop hits your range and not your actual holding knowing the villain will probably call regardless if the flop hits your range or not, as this kind of players (whales) don't think that far?

It depends on the villain. Some will be very loose preflop, but fold if they don't connect; especially on raggedy A high, K high boards. Some will call down with nothing. You're right that it's wrong to C-bet if they won't fold, but you can't know which category they're in unless you C-bet. Once I know that they're calling my C-bets with air, then I'll stop making them and just bet for value when I make my hand.

Another advantage to C-betting versus the players that are loose preflop, but capable of folding postflop, is that it encourages them to call you down lighter once you've done it to them a few times. So when you do make a hand you're more likely to get paid off (They're also more likely to start calling C-bets, so I won't make them as often unless I hit).

Raise 3bb with 66+KQ+AJ+.This hand a strong enough to shove if the villain make 3bet.
