I would just like to hear what everybody thinks about sit and go tournament strategies. I play a lot of 10+1 10 person sit and goes and I have tried different strategies with different results. Playing tight and the beginning and loosening up as the table goes on seems to be the strategy I would like to play the most. The only problem I am facing is that I end up in the final 4 or 5 almost everytime with the top 3 paying but I am often shortstacked and end up getting knocked out by a lucky catch from a big stack. Just wanted to hear suggestions. Thanks

You should always start off tight and then loosen up as players get knocked out.

When its really getting shorthanded you need to aim to steal blinds and pots, building your stack up and being more likely getting paid off when you have a hand.

Try and avoid big stacks, they are more likely to call you as losing won't cripple them compared to others. Watch for people being tight and giving up their blinds and pick on smaller stacks.

As always though there is never one correct way to play.

Stealing the blinds, especially when the table starts dwinlding, is the difference between going out mid-tourney or stayin around and only playing your best hands.

When the blinds r up around 3000/6000 its nice, it makes a big difference.

You have to be brave and will get re-raised on occasions but how often will that happen? And even if it does, you will find those with a short stack will gladly lose their blinds rather than leave the tournament

I too play mostly SNGs and I usually play a little loose at the beginning where I can see a lot of cheap flops. If I can catch a few hands I'll have built a little chip cushion needed when the blinds go up. Once the table dwindles a bit I tighten up and try to wait for premium hands.

What would T.J. do?

As you likely know, TJ Cloutier has won more tournaments than anyone else in poker history. He's played alot of single table satellites too. When I'm playing my best I've found it's because I'm consistently asking myself, "What would TJ do?"

He plays sit 'n gos super tight until the first 5/10 are knocked out, finds his strong hand to double up and plays more aggressively from there. The times I'm usually unhappy about the way I've played one of these mini's are generally when I try to out play a loose goose in the first dozen, or so, hands. Leave them to the battle of the suck-outs.

It seems that tight play until u bust someone out (double up ) and the play aggressive from there,is what works for me....

I agree with tight play in sit n go's. I always play sit n go's because they are the easiest to make money on, for me personally. If you play tight, your not going to lose unless you hit bad beats becuase by the time blinds eat you up there will be no more then 3 people left, usually.

Tight strategy for me works th ebest, and if you have the monster don't be afraid to play it!
