hi
I have this question floating in my head for quite a while I would like to know other people's opinion and the reason why they think that. So, here's the question:
I have beaten 4nl two times now (going from $80 to $120 (6nl, i play at 888)) but now i find myself in another downswing and i feel this is what is keeping me from reaching higher stakes. I have enough money to get a bankroll for 10nl( There isnt much of a difference between 4nl and 6nl imo ). What's your opinion: should I deposit and give myself leverage to play higher stakes or should i increase my bankroll solely through playing?

I would rather choose to start from the bottom and see what it brings. I believe at higher stake, the game is considerably tough.

By starting from the bottom you mean beat 2nl and move up? I have already done that. Im not learning a lot these days grinding 2nl and 4nl and i feel im just wasting time. There arent spots that i havent been in before at these stakes. I value my time and i feel im wasting it grinding 2nl and 4nl when i could be learning to beat 6nl and 10nl. I know that sooner or later i will have the roll for these stakes by playing but is it really necessary to spend all this time playing when im not improving all that much? Im not trying to look arrogant or ignorant but I Love watching myself improve my game and I hate it when i cant do it because im not rolled.

Yes, Yes & another Yes.
Roll it from were you are & progress when you get past that level of bye-in.

My problem is always being to protective of my roll.
With a BR of $480, im still playing 2c/5c & max $5.5o MTT

I dont really think going from $80>$120 constitutes beating 4nl, even if it was twice.

I would build your roll rather than deposit, so you have proven that you can deffo beat that level, you might have just been on a long heater.

get to $220 or so, then play some 6nl.

+1

Doesn't "beating a level" mean that you are now rolled for the next level?

Depositing to move up is a bad move IMO.

I concur that just moving ahead by $40 does not constitute beating that level of play. It shows a winning trend, but I think a winning trend must be shown over a significant period of time with many games played to show above average level of play.
So if you went from 80 to 120 over a year period while playing every day, it would show a little above average play.

It's just whether you're prepared to lose more money in expense for learning more quickly.

A new player who spends 2 months playing 2nl and 5nl will almost certainly be poorer than a player who starts at 10nl. (im being general here, inb4 someone nit picks and says everyones different etc) But the 10nl player might bust their $300 roll, wheres the 2/5nler might bust a $40-100 roll a couple of times and still not lose as much.

I dont buy into "you have to beat every stake" to move up. Its the micros man, all about improving and don't forget about your mental game. It is as important if not more important than your skill level. Tilt is what ruins a huge number of micro players.

If you have a bankroll for nl10 better foothold there and then gradually rise in stakes.

Grind through it; just make sure you are playing your A game. It is easy to tilt spew when you feel you are playing to low.

Some times u gotta just risk it. I was playing NL4 till i got to around $90. Then one night after 1 or 2 beers n my college roommate telling me to play higher stakes, I joined a 50NL heads up and got pretty lucky after playing for 20minutes i was up $50. Then I started playing 10NL and havent looked back since. Im up to $500 now. I dont think i could have been at this amount this quickly without me taking that retarded risk.

Yeah I have a BR over $480 and I still play 4 NL lol. I'm still trying to improve on my leaks.

I can afford to move up, but I don't have the skills for the higher levels IMO.

Try to increase your bankroll at the expense of the game.
