Ok Im playing in a 6 max £0.04/£0.08 cash game. Im on the button with pocket 7's. So its folded over to me on the button, I limp to try and set mine, SB calls, BB checks.
So the flop comes 4d, 7d, 6c.
Villain opens with a min bet, get 1 fold, then I just flat call looking to take more of his money on later streets.
Turn is an 8d, villain bets 0.08 into a 0.20 pot, I call.
River is a 10h, villain bets 0.20 into a 0.36 pot, I just call.
Villain shows 5-2 off for the straight to 8, so my set gets cracked by 5-2.
Should I have shipped my stack on the flop to protect my hand taking into account he probably would have called a raise on the flop. How badly did I play my hand?

Ship on the flop? I don't know about that one.

Ranging your opponent could have helped here. Of course he will bet with an OESD. A raise on the flop would be in order.

However, very likely when the turn hit, villain had the 5. You could have folded on the river, or even the turn.

Preflop raise on the button with 7-7.

Play flop more aggressively.

Fold when you are beat.

That's my $0.02. Take it with a grain of salt.

That is all.

Never ever set mine on a 6max table. You can get away with set mining on a FR table but on a 6max i do not recommend it, nothing but trouble most of the time. Don't let greed get in the way of your normal play. We have all done it at one time or another.

Raise preflop and make a BIG Cbet on that flop (villain can have flush draw, straight draw, gutshot, even some pairs if he is a fish). So BET for value don't slow play!! My opinion

Yeah never slow play. Only if you flop the stone cold nutz. Don't let them get there without paying the toll.
