Last night I had a new experience...

I saw some players entering with very short stacks, playing hardly anything, then striking with a premium hand and immediately disappearing.

I followed them round a few tables.

I lost one hand to them, but it was a fair beat, but I hadn't seen this before. Is it a common thing ?

What's the general feeling on these sort of players ? It seems profitable, or are they doing it to get PS points or some other advantage ?

Just curious...

Well if your br is low its good way for busting it.. Double up and split... Rinse and repeat...
But its rather boring and painful process...

The purpose is to be in an all-in situation with a promising hand say premium hand with a small portion of their bankroll.

So even if they are beat like suck out/bad beat, small part is just used.

Back when I was playing on a less popular site than PS, I saw some people buy-in with 2 BB (there were no minimum buy-in limits). Im not kidding. 2 BB! Explain THIS to me! :)

Is it regarded as unethical by players or just part of the game ?

I have since read about it being termed "Ratholing" and something that sites are trying to stop. It seems it's regarded as taking money off a table unfairly.

Yeah, its called ratholing. I read likewise regarding complaints but I didnt follow up whats pokerstars action was. But the article shows pokerstars knew and have concern about this.

There is no such thing as mentioned in the pokerstars article... One can join as short stack, double up and leave , join a new table with min buyin.
But why so much of noise about this ??

It's common enough. At 5NL I regularly stack these guys because most of them are impatient and will go with any premium hand that hits. Some of them like to all in with QQ, JJ or worse.

I don't have an issue with hit and run merchants, each to their own.
