I would like to know if you think is it better to have a set style that you play so u can get good and familiar with that style, or is it better to get a feel for the table first and go from their as to how you are going to play?

It depends. At micro NL ring games, a set style is profitable, but the higher the stakes, the better the players, so a set style is BAD in medium-high stakes ring games. Same for SNGs, the higher the buy-in, the more it depends on situation.

My thought is that the situation dictates how you play. For instance, in a tight table, you might want to play a bit more loose, but at a loose table you might want to tighten up your play.

I also think that getting comfortable with multiple styles of play would be good so you can make the necessary adjustments in any game (perhaps easier said than done?). Again, this goes back to feeling out the situation you're in.

Just my 2cents.

Go into the table with a plan of attack, scope out the table for a few minutes, then adjust your plan. Try to see who raises with what and the amount they raise to. Are they playing anything suited for a limp? Do they slow play monsters or build the pot with sweet flops. Try to pay attention to the details, but alas it really doesn't matter because they can be mixing up their play and then your notes aren't worth a damn!

i would have to agree. The tale kind of sets how I would play the hand. if it is an aggresive table i might just let them push the bet for me to conceal my hand strength. you have to know the tale and the stakes to know how you might play. good luck
