Is there any way to get away from a hand where you are bottom or middle set? I ran a set of 2s into a set of Jacks yesterday. So just wondering if anyone else has a problem with this. Luckily, it hasn't happened to me often.

you can easily get away if someone hits top set of As and he slowplays on the flop and gets crazy on later streets when meaningless cards appear... The same is probably true for set of Ks or Qs, but some players may decide to do the same play with AA on K or Q high boards

I can fold bottom set and fear about higher set only if I am 150bb+ deep... 100bb or less - I don't care and I don't think about it

this actually, set over set confrontations are so rare that it'd actually be unprofitable to try and find spots to fold sets.

Go broke with your set.

The only time I would fold a set is if Im pretty sure they hit their straight/flush draw on later streets.

it only happens 1 in every 100 times it goes set over set...honestly, if they raise 5 or 6 times the big blind, you know their a reg at that stake and an A and a K are out there, i might think they flopped a set? but other than those few situations, go broke with it

U saying statistically 1 in every 100 hands u have a set over set situation?

Or is this just a figure of speech?

I think it will be about 1:160 (My maths aint great!!!)

It is vert difficult to get away from a set in Hold em especially when there is no straight or flush possibilities on the board. That actually busted Negraneu out of the 08 main event. In omaha it is easier for me to get away from a set though.

When I hit a set the money is going in. The only time I would think about slowing down would be on a monochrome flop worrying about an overset is just monsters under the bed.

Don't bother trying to put someone on a higher set. Unles the board is very wet with straight and flush possibilities get your money in the middle as quick as possible

Poker is a cruel game. A few hours after I posted about getting my money in with a set no matter what I got coolered by a higher set in my session tonight. I know it was a cooler and I will still get it in with a set but I guess that's what I get for acting like I know something about this game. :(

Cooler. Always. Folding is out of the question.

I am sure the rest of the posts in the thread reflect the same thing.

I agree you can't fold sets to be honest. The only time I'd ever fold one is if the board was paired with a higher set possibility, which someone could of limped with Ace,King,Queen etc...or if of course there is an obvious flush, straight on the board then I would. You can never (in my experience) put anyone on a set against your set, espically if your set is middle/low one. No one would ever really put you on that and they could be raising with top pair. I don't think it would be profitable folding a set in the long run just on the slight of chance you're against a higher set..

You raise with 22 from the UTG and you get 3-bet by a nit in the BB who has a 3-bet stat of 2% over 10k hands and you know he flats AK OOP. You are 200 BBs effective and call.

The flop is AK2 rainbow, he checks, you bet half-pot, he check-raises, you 3 bet, he shoves. I think you can fold there. Other than that, not really folding sets on the flop ever.

No way u can get away from aset on the flop even if its bottom set. But if flop comes down all same suit and turn same suit as flop then u can get away from your set if u dont have the suit. If someone bets alot then u dont have the odds to call for river hoping for board to pair..

Sets are a no fold(see note below), if flush or strait comes on turn, most time you can call as you have 10 outs, for boat or quads, as your implied odds will give you the 3.7 to 1 you need, and some time if your opp min bet youll get it just off the expressed odds.

note: fold a set to a higher set, this can only be done in a live game, as you will need your opp to show you that he has a higher set, GL.
