Is there any advantage to be gained by using this option? And if so when is it best to offer or accept it? I am imagining it is when you are behind, but I never quite get why anyone iwould offer or accept while ahead, unless maybe two monster stacks get it all in and don't want to race with a small edge. But aren't we looking to be getting chips in with an edge?

Maybe I have misunderstood the whole concept, but I would like to hear any information/ views/ opinions any of you might have.

Cheers.

Reduces variance. If I could use that, I would only use it with other people that I have played with before or if I am way behind :p

if your under-rolled for the game your playing you should always opt for the "run it twice" option, however, it changes virtually nothing. As Iplay stated it only changes short term variance by reducing your bankroll swings slightly. Running it twice is commonly seen on highstakes poker, where they will occasionally they will run it up to 4 times, because guys don't want to flip coins for a million bucks.

It doesn't affect your EV, so I really wouldn't worry about it. Unless you only have 5-10 buyins at your chosen stake, it's not really necessary. Short term variance obviously doesn't matter in the long term.

And if you're consistently getting it in when you're way behind, perhaps you need to reconsider how you're playing, rather than trying to make up ground by running it twice!
