There is always for me A stage in A tournament when it comes down to taking that risk that doesn't fit any of the books or suggestions, or odds.
It is usually A gut feeling with some kind of decent hand. I play with the intent of making it deep into tournies. The one important fact that has come to light. If I am going achieve that goal I'm going to have take the risk of being eliminated or crippled.
When I have been crippled and put on a short stack I will push with connectors or even mid range hi draws.
If I am sent to the rail fine, many times I am rewarded. The choices are my responsibility alone. I don't allow myself to be influenced by others reaction to my hand selection, nor do I allow prior beats or hands played to make my present decisions.

These are strategies that have worked for me over and over. I have learned that it doesn't matter what my roi is or any other past factors. Only the one hand at A time in front of me, and the decision to either enter the hand or fold, or continue to the turn or river on this 1 hand. Do I have certain hands that I favor "yes" ofcourse I do I play poker don't I lol!!:deal:

Moreover, one will have to risk his stack more than once to win or even in order to only get ranked high in the tourney.
However, waiting for the perfect hand for "THE" risk(s) may blind you out or put you in a position where you become the one with the lowest stack (due to not playing) - That said, you have to 'play' the 'medium' hands as well

The best way to play middle and late stages of tourney is to play the situation and not just cards. I play tight but if i get mid cards suited or not, I will use my tight image to take pots.

Even if they call, if you hit the flop or not you can usually take the pot down with a raise. Just make it obviouse your a tight player and they will respect you. Just don't go all in, that is usually a sign of wakness .

I do not even put all my chips in any one pot unless i got it pretty much on lock down. If you never go all in, its takes a series of hands to put you out. That is key to winning! If you just wait on the big pairs you are in for a lot of disappointment.

I agree

I agree with you, I usually pick right before the bubble stage because many are jsut looking to place ITM. I'd rather go out pre-bubble than fold out around the bubble.....Jane
