I am trying my hands again at ring games. Did real bad for a while and went mainly SNG till I realized it was me and not the game...haha. After a lot of reading and self (hand) analysis, I have been back playing Ring games, and doing a lot better this time around (ty CC). But would like some tips on the differences and different approaches to 6 vs. 10 seat tables. Plus, what is a good table selection strategy. And any other important point that I obviously dont know or I would have mentioned them.... Thanks

Oh yea, I play micro stakes.

Its pretty much the same thing. You just get to play more of your hands on the button & the cutoff playing 6-max. But to put things in perspective, a TAG style for full ring is around 15/13, and for 6-max its around 20/17. You don't really loosen up that much at 6-max tables.

If you are a tag player who plays table position I would recommend full ring games. In 6 seaters you are in table position more often and will be committing chips in a lot more pots. Also more lag players in 6 seaters so expect to be called down more often when trying to steal. If you are a successful lag player there is more money to be made in 6 seaters I believe for these same reasons. I'm a tag/nit who plays position so i stick to full ring games.

Excuse my ignorance, but could you explain what the numbers 15/13 etc. mean? I have seen these numbers b4, I believe in association with a HUD(??) but dont have a HUD, have been advised to get one (play PKR mainly, are they allowed on all sites?). As far as what type of player I am, am still trying to figure that out myself lol. I am a beginner, and am mainly tag, but I tend to mix it up a lot, maybe too much? BTW, I have been on tables a couple of times with players who come in blazing, starting with $4 (2-4¢ tables) and being 15$ in 20 min or so, then they are gone. Is this a sign of just a good player? is it luck, or is it normal for a good player to come in and do this, is this a lag fish who got lucky, just a string of good hands? This was always combined with seeing a lot of flops, and betting heavy pre-and post.

Yes, they're numbers you get on your HUD. 15% is voluntarily put money in pot (VP$IP) and 13% is pre-flop raises (PFR). What it means is that you're playing 15% of hands, not including just posting the blinds, and how close the two numbers are determines how aggressive you are pre-flop when you do play a hand.

Yeah, you should get one. You can download free trials of both poker tracker 3 and holdem manager.
Not sure on PKR's rules but PT3 and HM seem to be accepted everywhere so I think you'd be fine (if no one else confirms that it's fine, check the rules, but it will more than likely be accepted).

I have been on tables a couple of times with players who come in blazing, starting with $4 (2-4¢ tables) and being 15$ in 20 min or so, then they are gone.

Doesn't say anything about their skill, only that they put a lot of chips in very quickly, which either means aggressive fish who went all in in spots they shouldn't have or someone who got a good run of cards (even a decent LAG is going to need a good run of cards to do this).
Whatever you do, don't try replicating their play it would be a really, really bad idea because it's very likely they were a fish that got lucky.

TAG=Tight Aggressive (tight hand selection, aggressive when he plays a hand).

LAG=Loose Aggressive (loose hand selection, aggressive when he plays a hand).

hope it does not bother you, but i checked you out on pokertableratings and it tells me you have been playing games like 0.05/0.1 or and even 0.10/0.25. and its looks like you are losing all games, may i suggest starting of at 0.01/0.02, show a profit for at least 20.000 hands and move up to 0.05/0.10 and so on, even if you have the bankroll for 0.1/0.25 you should still play the smaller stakes just to make sure you have the skill for it.

good luck to you sir.

Doesn't bother me at all. As a matter of fact, for anyone who is feeling a bit depressed, go to my stats and it is sure to make you feel better....lol.
I started playing for money online late last year, and have made two very grave mistakes. 1. I made a bit of fast money on SNGs and placed good in 1 MTT and got a decent BR, wasnt sooooo bad at ring (0.2-0.4), and went immediately to a level that I did not belong at. Lost a bunch real quick, started playing higher SNGs and higher buy in Mtts, stupidly thinking how I will make that money back in higher buy-ins since the winnings are higher (am I making you depressed people smile a bit now) and lost, put more money in, lost and so on. Won 5% lost 95% or something like that. I had some beginners luck and began to think how good I was, and I am now actually glad because I learned a lot, You are absolutly right in your suggestion, and I am already there. I would ask you to look at my - especially ring - stats in a month or 2, as I have been back on 0.2-0.4 and doing a lot better.
My second big mistake is I came home a few times after being out drinking and decided I felt like playing. No need to say how that went. I now like to play weekend nights,as I no longer play if I am buzzed, but many others do....:) It was hard to admit at first, but now that I can admit my leaks, I may be able to stop them, and, quite to the contrary, I am never bothered by good advice, and am happy you took your time to give it.

Could you expand on that? Why do you find it more practical, and for what other reasons do you prefer 6-seaters?

Yes, this depressed poker player feels a bit better reading your story :p

I like 6h simply because on the site I play at there are many more 6h tables, and much looser ones. Which is what I'm looking for.
