Hey guys. I have a bit of a leak of folding too often to 3bets. My F3B is 90%. For example, if i raise from LP and a TAG 3bets from the blinds (with a classic 6% 3bet stat overall) i generally will only defend with AJs, KQs or better. even when i call i tend to play very fit/fold postflop just because i tend to not like risking too much in 3bet pots. if i have a hand like AT and hit an ace, then how do i know it's good? it could easily be dominated and the times i have defended these hands i usually have given up to a second barrel for fear of losing my stack. And if a reg 3bets me BTN vs CO then i will widen my 4bet range (both for value and bluffs) but i will never just call.

So i made this thread to get an idea of how you guys respond to 3bets. Here are some questions:

1) What are your typical ranges BTN vs blinds for calling 3bets, and for 4bets?
2) What about for CO vs BTN, and MP vs BTN? Do you ever flat OOP here?
3) When you hit top pair decent kicker, do you go to the felt with it? e.g. AQ on A2259 BTN vs blinds: would you call 3 barrels, two or one? (assume opponent is an average TAG or a fairly unknown one)
4) When you whiff the board, do you typically ever fight for the pot?
5) Let's suppose you raise to 3bb and opponent makes it 10bb (100bb stacks). Do you typically setmine here when a) IP and b) OOP ?

Would appreciate some feedback since as i said, it's a bit of a leak of mine and needs fixing.

Folding to 3b in micros (at least NL2 and NL5 zoom 6max, my levels) is a standard play. You need to have a special reason to call.
  1. Very good hand, you don’t want to go all in, like AK against tighter player, maybe AQs
  2. Deep stack -> this is great, you can call even the small pairs all suited if villain is deep too
  3. When you are button, you should be able to call more as some people are keen to 3b v button open. But you need to have stats here that he is ready to light(er) 3b.
  4. When against small 3b -> price is good and further the person probably is bad in poker. You just hope the person 3betting has AA ;)
Calling 3b with small pairs, you need 15 to 25x money left, only possible with deep stacks.

i will try my best to answer your questions but take into account i am a micro player and there will be better advice available from more advanced members.

1) i will usually look at their re steal stat if i get 3bet by the blinds...if the stat is low then i think our overall hands strength should be taken into consideration more. if the stat is high then we depending on our hand strength we could 4bet bluff for a fold or call and take it postflop..could then look at their postflop stats and see what their tendicies are..for instance if their cbet is big but their turn cbet is low we can float the flop and bet the turn....

2) CO V BTN could be that BTN has noticed you are stealing the blinds and he has come over the top to re take dead money if you dont play back..if you dont think he's capable of that then you would need to look at his stats and postflop tendencies...if his 3bet is low then you can fold out hands that are crushed pre and 4bet big hands as he will prob call. again it depends on the player you are up against....MP V BTN..the earlier postion we are in the less likely the BTN will be looking to win the hand pre flop and wanting you to fold..so depending on the villians range and stats you can either 4bet/flat or fold out a dominated range.

3) depends on villians range and the lines he took...sometimes its normal to go for thin value and sometimes you need a stronger hand than TPGK..just depends on your reads.

4) depends on the villian lol...theres alot of 'depends' in poker..theres not alot of white and black answers..but generally, its harder to fight for the pot against calling stations/loose passives and villians who obviously have something and wont fold..TAGS/LAGS/NITS/TAPS. and better players who will be playing against your own tendencies...

5) you can only really setmine if you have the odds to do it...so 15-20x relative stack size..need the right implied odds if you do hit a set to make it a profitable play in the long run.
