Hey Cash Game Players!

I'm a new-ish online NLHE player (about a year). A good amount of what I've learned so far about poker concepts for cash games has come from Micro Grinder Poker School's Youtube page and website. The guy who runs it is named Alton Hardin I believe, and he has a few books he's published as well. What I've learned from him seems to pretty much line up with a lot of what I've found on other places, as far as like general poker terms, hud stats information, and overall that you want to take a tight aggressive strategy most of the time playing poker. However his Youtube channel, where I've learned most of this information, is pretty unpopular. He only have like 5k subs and each of his videos gets a few hundred views, some of them 1 or 2k. That leads me to question the quality of his content and makes me wary of buying a his books and maybe some of his online content.

So has anyone heard of Micro Grinder Poker School before? Does anyone know if Alton Hardin's books are good? Is his content particularly bad at all? Is any of it worth the money? Is the strategy that he teaches not good/optimal? Any help and suggestions would be great.

Never heard of it or Alton Hardin. There are lots of good poker books with solid reputations.

Micro Grinder Poker Schoo imo is mostly solid youtube channel and one of the few (only one currently?) that has theory based learning path and not show like approach. That might also be part of the reason for low numbers ;)

His play style shows through the teachings sometimes and that is why I would not take his books as a gospel, however I would definitely read them. As a bible book (the base book you read as long as you get the book) I would choose one of the god like books. I only know one of these for a new player and that is quite old. Most famous ones are not for a new player because lack of teaching though process (mostly being too short for the content) or too advanced approaches.

If you have direct and active communication path to the writer, I might then actually reconsider buying and using it as a base.

By "show like approach" do you mean teaching using tons of example hands etc? What would you recommend as the best learning source for a semi-new player? What did you use to learn?

"By "show like approach" do you mean teaching using tons of example hands etc?" Something like that. For example, by Doug’s word, he tries to add some theory to his videos, but still keep it accessible for general audience.

I’m not good example about learning and thus my opinion is not respectable. You should spend lot of time to choose good book right for you. My base book is (or rather was) Harrington and now I try to get familiar with Applications of Nolimit Holdem.

The preflop range charts on the site look tight which is likely a good starting place for a beginner.I'm not sure how good his video or other content is though. There are so many sites out there now though with well known winning coaches. So use all the resources at your disposal and get a well rounded view of different opinions and approaches.

Hi.
I have not heard anything about this player.
But I recently read the book Three Nguyen's "The NL Holdem Workbook."
And I found a lot of things interesting for myself. I recommend.
Good luck.

If I remember rightly , his book (Alton's) was mentioned in a list of some of (still) most reliable poker books for NL. The pellet summary was basically a good start for many players.

There are a few YouTube sites with relatively low subscriber numbers that have good quality content that is realistic.

There are some that are very popular but where the actual usable info is harder to find.

Ed Miller has a lot of excellent material in his books too.

I didn't read that book. However, aggressive play is not always successful. Sometimes you can play back a aggressive opponent with a tight game. I'd say the opponent is aggressive and falls into his own puck.
