When playing Cash games do you think its a good idea to rebuy or add chips if you've lost them all?
I'm not a big fan of it & have heard in several poker books that its not a good idea, basically because if your losing why keep adding money.
What do you guys (& gals) think?

Always rebuy.

Being shorter either does two things -

1) Loses you value

2) Saves you money

If it's the latter then I suggest you don't bother sitting in that game. Whether you are winning or losing is irrelevant. If you have edge you should press it. If not GTFO of that game and find one you can beat.

If you keep losing, then why did you sit in the first place? To get lucky?

If you feel you can beat the game, why would you not want to rebuy? If you think the game is too tough, why were you there in the first place?

I agree with the previous sentiment. If you're going to sit at a cash table, sit with the max buy-in. You want to get maximum leverage from your winning hands.

If you're not comfortable sitting with a max buy-in, you shouldn't be sitting.

I never rebuy but then again i havnt made it above small change cash games. But in my experiences when i get in a groove and take their first moneys on the table, when they rebuy i can almost always get a small chunk before leaving and knowing when to leave is my weakness. THanks!

So basically you just hope to get lucky and run. You are not going to improve and move up from the small change cash games if this is all you do.
If you're fine with that thats fine. Its your money not mine. I can't tell you how to play.

To OP: always rebuy unless your edge is in playing shallow stack poker. And as others said, if you are not rebuying because you are afraid of losing, you should move down stakes. Scared poker is losing poker in the long run.

Not to mention if you are multitabling, it will be a hell lot harder to keep track of effective stack size and you're bound to make a few mathematical mistakes.

The OP didn't really say anything about topping up, I assume they're aware that its always best to have the maximum in front of you. What they are asking about is weather to reload after they lose all their chips. Basically my answer would be that as long as you have an edge then rebut, if you just suffered a bad beat or cooler then as long as you aren't tilted and you are still playing your a game then debuting is fine, if you think your play might be affected or you don't have a decent edge then it might be better to find a better table/ take a break

It also depends on how long you are planning to play for. If you want to grind for 4-6 hours, you DEFINITELY want to play it full.

I always auto reload/top off to the maximum buy in. I don't want to worry about being 20 cents down or whatever.

In a cash game no. Go away and do something else if you brought plenty the 1st time and already lost them. Move on come back later.

Rebuy if you are outplaying the opposition. Don't rebuy if you are being outplayed.

If you are tilted, DON'T REBUY.

I'm curious, what are your metrics for determining if you are being outplayed?

if there are players you know you have an advantage on ,of course. If you dont feel you have the edge rebuying could put pressure on yourself to 'get back' and possibly affect your play

If you are consistently making poor (inaccurate) reads in that session and it is costing you money, you are probably being outplayed.

You know that I personally do not like the r-buy, not the add on, so I never play such a tournament, but has a good thing is that the prizes are much better than others! Another drawback I find is that tournaments are much more extensive!

Typically, when we talk rebuy, we are talking tourneys, same with add-on.

Cash guys, what are the 'proper' terms for reloading at a cash table?
