You try to get the best low starting hand. Generally you do not want to be playing unless all 3 of your first cards are unique and 8 or less (ace is the lowest -- think of it as 1).

Do a search for razz here and see what turns up, or search for my personal posts since I try to give some input anywhere I see Razz being mentioned.
I play razz almost exclusively, and can assure you that you can win a nice chunk of change if you know what you're doing.

Here are some other good places to start:

Online Poker at Full Tilt Poker - Razz: Comprehensive
listening's Razz blog: Introduction&
listening's Razz blog: Microstakes Profitability
Stud - Two Plus Two Poker Forum

I have been playing razz too lately. Its a great game. Real basic: straights and flushs don't hurt you because they don't count as a high hand. The best hand is the wheel ( ace through 5 straight). Your first 3 cards need to have no pairs and all be low cards. Remember you have to play 5 out of 7 cards. If you get say ace, 2, jack to start the ace 2 are great but the jack kills it. I would still play it for 1 more card if small bet but you can only throw out 2 cards and the jack will be one of them. You just play for the worst hand. If you have ace 2 jack 7 6 5 10 you have a 76 high. If you have ace 2 jack 2 6 5 10. You have a 10 6 which is lousy but you have to throw out one of the 2's since it paired. Check out Full Tilt. They have some razz freerolls to help you learn hand values. Good Luck.

I play Razz as follows, is leaving to start with 3-smaller than 7 I will give raise, if one letter among those children who already have 7, still rising. Just follow if the next 2 letters are not less than 7, or quit the times of hand. Otherwise, the game or hand

Also remember that there's no qualifier in razz -- it's not like the low side of Stud-8 or Omaha-8 where you have to have 8 high or worse to make a qualifying low hand.

Here's a thread I started a few weeks ago, and got some great responses, particularly a few from skolpadda and our resident razz expert and moderator, Jack Daniels. :)

Some of it might be way over your head as a rank beginner (some of it was over my head, and I'm no stranger to razz), but it is very well-written and thought out. Good luck!

"Play Razz Poker to Win" by Mitchell Cogert is a good book for anyone who is taking up Razz.

It takes you through the whole game of Razz from start to finish and gives a good stategy (IMO).
It helped me a lot when I started and I think it cost about twenty bucks.
