Since then I've matured as a player, both online and in live play, I decided to come out with another thread of random poker tips and hints. This is aimed at newer players/members who are just learning the game or want to improve their overall game, but since poker is a game that can never really be mastered I think we can all benefit from it.
There are also a lot of knowledgeable players on this forum like Stormswa, Joose, Dorkus, Hott Estelle, and many more. So, it would be great if they could stop be here and drop some knowledge bombs. I know they have a lot to contribute that I could learn from.
And so, I invite anyone who has anything to post-whether its something you figured out on your own through personal experience, read about, or even heard about-post it here. If I can expend or elaborate, I'll do my best.
And so, It begins:
1. A mathematical look at the All In Bluff...is it worth it?:
You and your opponent both have 30K in chips. The pot is 10K and you think you can take it down on the river with a bluff. How much should you bet? If you bet out half the pot, you are letting the pot lay a 2 to 1 price. This means that your bluff has to be successful a little over 33% of the time to be profitable, which isn't a lot of pressure on your chip stack. Even if you bet the pot, you're success rate has to be about 50%. So, what if you push all in? The pot is laying a price of 3 to 1, which means this bluff would have to be successful over 75% of the time in order to be profitable, which puts a lot of pressure on you. Not only that, but it you are also putting your entire tournament life to the test and it actually looks more like a bluff than betting half the pot. Try not to risk your tournament life on a bluff, when a smaller bet will do just the same. You'll notice this happen often during the early and mid stages off MTTs and SnGs.
