I received this via mass email from a poker coach and thought this was good hand to talk about for various reasons.

Check this quiz out and give me your final villains range of hands and most likely spot on hand if you can.

1-3 game $300 effective stacks

V1 is UTG and 30 yrs white and soccer dad type. Non pro but not a drooler either. Routinely solid / mediocre as a recreational player normally would be expected to be.

V2 is laggy on button

V1 limps UTG, 2 other limpers, Hero CO limps 33, button V2 limps as well. Blinds check.

FLOP (21) Qd QS 4d

Flop checks thru.

Turn (21) Qd Qs 4d 3s

V1 checks, chk chk , Hero bets $20 into $21, BTN V2 raises to $55, fold fold V1 UTG shoves his $297 allin.

What is V1's range and better yet his most likely hand.

I believe V1 has hit his set of 3. In this case full house. When hes saw QQ he was leary to bet. Hoped for a free go around, got lucky and got 1 and then pops up his set for pocket 3´s . Not wanting to scare off anyone on the turn making opps thinking he had set Q, he checked to the next round and hoped someone will try n bluff bet on a 2 pair hand or whatever they decided to bet on and then it was shove city from there. When will we receive answer? or is this just like playing poker never knowing unless we played the hand :D

We have 3's...

Anyway it's an easy fold here, we aren't committed in any way and are too frequently not good.

Either I am not sure I understand your comment or the question. Question I thought being asked is what do we believe is the range or better yet the hand of Villian 1. That is why I responded 3´s. Maybe you can clarify your explanatin to me another way. I am really confused. It´s not your fault though. It is easy to confuse me :D

Limping in with 44 makes the most since. There is an argument if he limps in with Aqo and check raising. Don't think a solid tight older player is liming with any qx here, if he did limp in with KK AK or AA it is a really bad play on him but I've seen worse. Overall since someone already said 44 I'm going AQ

Playing at this level ,seeing how this hand plays out, I'd have to say he's holding Q 3

@maik357 - It wasn't started what Hero's hand is, others are hypothesizing the next level of the question. Assuming next part is "You hold 33, what do you do"?

I think I ought to go to sleep a couple of days and wake up and read this again. Now I am lost. Not your faults. Guess these are the side effect from sleeping less.

Okay man I really do need to sleep. Funny though after I finished my beer I understood it. I did not realise that hero (me) had 33. I totally missed that I was a participant. Gotta quit that speed reading. I seem to skip over the important lines and read not so important ones. Thanks guys for waking me up.
But I can not answer that question now, because if I got 33, it is so hard to fold a full house, I have done once, if I recollect correctly once but because I knew the villian and I knew he never jams unless he got nuts. I folded a smller on than his. That´s what she said. well thanks again

Ok, I have enough responses, so I will move on to the next part that I wanted to get some feedback on anyway. (V1 had 44 for those that care).

The thing that I really realized when I was thinking about the hand, was that while I mostly know what to do when reading about hands and discussing hands with my friends, I am not doing a good job at all at profiling players while playing live. I can get a very loose feel of how they play, but beyond that, I am really lacking in what I feel is one of the most important skills in live poker. At least at the lowest levels. I was wondering if anyone else is struggling with this also and for those that are getting better at this, was there anything you were able to do to speed up the process ( kinda like an ah ah moment). Or is this mostly solved by experience and time at the table.

Thanks for all replies.
Maybe a mod might want to move this to general poker section.

If there was a fast way I missed it. Playing more hands and understanding average villain actions helped me the most

It says he's a 30 yr old soccer dad type but I don't think that really gives much away. When playing live I find that it's more about how they act, the more active/aggressive players are nearly always the ones talking and joking. The guy that doesn't really talk much is usually a nit. And the drunk guy leaking chips is me!
