First and foremost, sorry about shitty incident. Upon logging in, your post was the first one I spotted, therefore compelled to read completely; as a similar situation happened to me at about 1 o’clock this morning at the local poker club/casino...except it occurred 2 times within an hour of play:
(To commence: it just so happened to be against the same person both times; an apparently bored-ass guy (like your opponent, he was Asian) that would rebuy in small increments so he’d put himself in more “shoving” times than not. I should have asked him if this was a strategy or if he was just doing it for shits and gigs; but after I tell you his betting decisions/outcomes you wouldn’t want to talk to him either, haha).
1st time:
I’m big blind and he decides to straddle after me, doubling the blinds without even looking at his cards.
The flop comes out all hearts not connected and I happened to pick up two pair.
With his minimal stack, he goes all-in. Thinking he has nothing more than a top pair and not a flush, I call.
He DID have top pair only; but he also paired his other card on the river.
$50 right there...due to unfortunate smart play/a dildo AND a horseshoe stuck up this Asian POS (I’m half Filipino, so in no way am I racist or anything, haha).
2nd time (approx 30 mins later):
Now our chip stacks are even; relatively smaller than any other opponents. It was his preference to rebuy only 30-40% of the Max amount; while Ive been getting that vibe not to add-on based on the overall context of multiple things (another dude that acted/seated after me had 10 times the man ships is anybody else catching river after river after river, etc.).
Me and that Asian dude are coincidentally heads up once again pre-flop after we both call. I catch another two pair after the flop, so this time I decide to go all in after he checked it.
He sits there for a while almost calling time, but then calls. He had a gut shot straight draw that he, once again, got on the river.
Another $50...
Well, it looks like I got to play one more hand than you; but you survived got to an hour longer, lol.
Oh yeah, the following happened on the same day, but with a different table/person:
I’m second-to-last to act with pocket Kings, so I raise 5x the B.B., making it obvious I have a monster. Big guy after me then quadruples MY bet. Based on probabilities, there’s a FRACTION of a percentage point he has AA, so I put him all in and he snap-calls..............only with pocket jacks. Despite my huge advantage, he happens to catch his set on the river: $100: gone.
So yeah man, you can’t get discouraged because of bad luck; as you should be fortunate that it’s not the other way around where you suck at cards and everyone labels you a punk-ass donk/fish.
Best of luck to you and all future endeavors, as I hope I provided any words of wisdom, comfort, familiarity, etc.). Take care man!
