I know the topic of bankroll management has been talked about to death, so I'll make this brief. I've been playing .05/.10 full ring games and have been doing quite well. I've got my BR up to $500, and consider myself ready for 0.10/0.25.

The problems is, on my poker site at the times I am available to play, there is rarely a 0.10/0.25 table up (At least at full ring).

And obviously I'd probably be a bit too aggressive to start firing up 0.25/0.50 tables as I could easily lose a large chunk of my BR (or more) simply due to variance, let alone adjusting to the difference in the skill level of the opposition.

So I'm curious, when should I start taking shots at 0.25/0.50 considering the circumstances.

Yeah to jump 5x your current stakes would be a leap most likely in not only the mentality of playing for 5x the buyin but skill level as well.

Perhaps you could take this time to play 6max since it sounds that is what runs at the 25nl level. So essentially start playing 10nl 6max and see how it goes and improve your game there so that you could move up through the limits without having to make such a large jump.

If you were going to stick with FR and look at taking a shot at 50nl from your current 10nl I would say wait until you have at least the 20 full buyins so you could take at least a 3 or 4 buyin shot before having to rebuild again at 10nl.

Seems pretty stiff though to have to build up to 1k from 10nl before playing a new limit so I'd be more thinking it's best to take this opportunity to work on your 6max game at 10nl so you can move on to 25nl rather than having to wait for so long to move up and then if it doesn't go well having it take a lot longer to rebuild back at 10nl then you could at 25nl.

GL, sounds like it's going really well so far.

I feel you. FF is usually like that

Its all mental. Play a round or two at .25/.50 and see how comfortable you are. But no more than one or two buy-ins until you decide for sure or not if that is suitable for you! Good Luck in your journy. What was your starting BR and how long did it take you to get to $500. Im always curious about this

I started out with about 300, lost half of it learning how to play, and slowly worked on getting it back up. I'm a very very low volume player though, most of my sessions are under 100 hands and I only get to do that maybe every other day. So as far as weeks/months I probably took longer than most (around 6 months from when my BR bottomed out around $160, though to be fair I don't know what average would be).

And gh0st, well, you nailed it, this is on FF. :)

Usually when you get to 25nl and up, 6 max is the majority. You are heading into fulltime grinder territory. These pros are 6max multitablers grinding out an edge through high volume and rakeback/vip. If you are a fulltime or considering higher stakes without busting or reloading often, then I would suggest minimum 30 buy ins before moving up. use 50 - 100 buyins when I went fulltime. I waited until I had $2500 before I moved to .25/.50 NL. You might notice more bad beats and questionable calls at the higher levels, due to players relying on poker software and huds to make decisions.
