The blinds are 1/2 and your on the dealer button with 86 suited. 6max table..

The action is limped... I follow and I limp!... SB decides to raise $17... everyone folds to me and we both have 100bb ... When should I expect to make this call? If ever... What are some odds out there you can add this hand I should be thinking of.

What are the limits to be calling this?

I don't have a problem with you playing 68s from the button, so long as you raise the limped pot. Assuming UTG MP and CO limped there's a decent steal opportunity, and it's a nice hand to trap with on the button.

Only call the SB ai if it's me sat there. Thanks.

HI Aces!

My answer would be never. One thing I could add is that when the blinds have a reputation of making that play enough, you may want to fold preflop, OR raise yourself before they get a chance to.

bigslade wasn't calling the SB raise, so that's everyone saying never call.

It's not a question of playing predictably, calling simply isn't profitable.

But how can raising be more profitable? I guess just the fold equity + position will outweigh the cards.

In his hand re-raising the SB would be kind of weird since you already limped into the pot.

But in general, against a single raise, 3betting hands like 86s as a bluff is more profitable than calling.

Whether

Raising >> folding >> calling

or

Folding >> raising >> calling

will depend on your opponent(s).

Thx Micro for your input....

Isn't there the other factor ... SB should be raising with premiums? so since we know what he has it should be easy to play depending on the flop texture?

Yeah you should never call more than eight times the big blind with eight high thats just a really bad idea, you should listen to what everyone is saying.

I wouldn't call. So he raised $17 making it $19 total? Or is it $17 total? If it's $17 total, you would have to call $15 to win a pot of $27, a bit worse than 2 to 1. You're not going to flop two pair, trips, and combo. draws frequently enough to make a call profitable in the long run.

Alright lets change the scenario... UTG raises $17... 3 other people follow.

And it's up to you?... Blinds are still to act... so at this stage $17 to risk $88 in the pot... still given a chance the blinds could call 17...

I know i'm just throwing random stuff out there... But these circumstances do come up especially in live cash games.

Isn't any two random cards to end up winning the hand at 22%? I know theres some players out there who will call with absolutely anything as long as all limp in and he says *arr now I gotta check my cards because you raised*.

I get your thinking I'm getting a good price and all that. I'm no expert post flop so I would still be folding because there are so many post flop situations that can cost us money. e.g 8 high flop comes and we face a 3/4 pot bet, what do we do?
