Hi there;

how is the hand ranking on straights?

Is A 2 3 4 5 - As high to or is it the lowest straight?:questionm

Update Feb 2018:

Aces can be high or low in hold'em. In this case it is low and this is the lowest possible straight.

CardsChat has an awesome guide for those new to poker that will show you all of the hand rankings:

straights with aces

Aces can be used for low straights, (A2345) as well as high (10JQKA).

The best straight to get is A,K,Q,J,10 and then is just goes down from there, K,Q,J,10,9 and so on. This is for Hold'em poker. There are certain other games of poker where you can play a hand high or low meaning that the best high hand will split the pot with the best low hand. The best low hand is the lowest possible cards without having a pair so the best low hand is A,2,3,4,5 and the highest card u can go up to is an 8 any higher card is not counted as a low hand.

Hi there,

thanks for information.
Let me look at Texas Holdem.

What is higher
A2345 or 23456, meaning is A ever high or not?

2-3-4-5-6 is higher than "the wheel" (A-2-3-4-5).

straight heights

you judge by your top card in the case of A 2345 5 is the high card so A K Q J T is the high straight also known as broadway

A2345 is a 5 high straight, the lowest possible straight, because you are essentially using the Ace as a 1.

A straight is ranked by its highest card:

So in the case of A-2-3-4-5, you are using the ace as a LOW, so you would have a 5 high straight.

A 2-3-4-5-6 straight beats the straight mentioned above because it has a 6 high, which tops a 5-high.

The best straight is 10-J-Q-K-A, which uses the ace as a HIGH.

Hope this cleared up any confusion.
