Hey Guys,

When deducing whether to make a big call or not in cash games, should a good player be adjusting their overall strategy when playing against players who would consider good vs. bad.

I was playing online against some very TAG opponents that were very hard to get money out of when I did hit a good hand. I had a 4 and flop came 774. I called to a small bet and a 4 hit the board giving me a full house. Turn comes check check river is a blank and on the river villain bets All In. Now when playing against worse opponents I could see this as someone who is trying to steal the pot and willing to risk all their chips/maybe has two pair. Dude ended up having a 7 so full house over full house and I lost. The whole game everyone was playing TAG and the pot was decent already so I'd be surprised dude had a random 7.

What are your thoughts? Should I of realized if he bet the flop he probably had a pair or gave him credit for that vs. an over pair? Did I play this like a noob?

There are a few things that could have been going on in that hand, but ultimately the question is should you have folded to an all-in? When dealing with a full house, I wouldn't say calling is a bad move. However, you knew this player was a TAG which meant he was only going all-in with someone good. Very good. In this case he had the 7, but the way he played the hand he could have had a pocket pair that boated him on the turn or river. But the ultimate question is, if you play that hand that way 100 times, will it be profitable for you in the long run? If you think so, then you played it right even though you lost this time.

Yes, against good players if you know that you are worse than them play tighter to balance the skill cap with card equity difference. Also against good players the implied odds are reduced so set mining and connectors are less valuable than against a bad player. If you are good and he is good the strategy comes closer to balanced way of playing, where the extreme scenario is gto.

For me I would have seen the 77444 as a trap. When some goes all in I ask myself what could possibly beat my hand and how the other player is playing. Being a tag he probably wouldn't go all in unless he had a 7 or even a pair or sevens.

I tread carefully when my full house is based on me having one card and it is the lower half of the fullhouse.

Since you were playing against TAG it might have been wise to fold depending on how big his all-in was. When playing against others you might read it as a bluf or higher pockets or something so in that occasion you would propably never fold. I think its just rather unfortunate to run into that hand its allways very hard to fols a full house ofcourse

In any case - you had a good hand - but not the best !! It depends a lot on your opponent - you have to understand his range of hands ..... - this is the most important thing to evaluate your chances ....

thanks everyone a ton for your answers! Definitely helped give me some insight. On Equilab I am winning 85% roughly here so this is a fold I can only make profitably 15% of the time and I guess this time was in that 1.5/10 times!!! Although, pushing all in vs. calling an all in of course will effect my profits with fold equity so that is something I will have to consider as well. Thanks everyone!
